I always pipe up in these discussions because my earring wardrobe gets daily wear right along with my specs. I'm one of those who never thought twice about pairing them, and depending on the outfit I'll have on a necklace or pendant as well. I'm petite but wear what I call "medium" earrings--99% of them are drops of all sorts or hoops, and in all kinds of colors. (I'm considering adding some blush pink ones right now...) Even these don't always show up in outfit pix so I was thinking of posting a selection on its own just for fun. As for hair, mine is medium-to-dark blonde and was recently very long but now is about shoulder length; however, my haircut has almost never affected my earring game.

The comfort zone here might depend on the specs maybe as has been suggested? My main pairs are simple, clean-lined, and not very "heavy" as my small face can't handle very big or heavy-framed specs, and they are in neutral colors that aren't bright or super dark/high contrast. Maybe that's one reason I don't feel they compete.

Wow, I loved kwood's pictie!
But, for myself, I always found it tricky and me too "I'm a little embarrassed to admit how much I ponder this" and actually-as per Suz said- never gone with both of them, just one or the other (specs OR big/dangling earrings)- thus I wear studs all the time. (But I do have short, thin, fine& blonde hair-+my facial features are a bit squearish...I love skirts and dresses- it should be so easy, but statement earings are just not the way I'll show off my feminity--:-().

It honestly never occurred to me that I couldn't wear earrings with my glasses. You'd better just wear 'em, or I'm going to have to start pondering whether I can wear mine...

It felt like too much when I first started wearing bolder glasses, but I do it all the time now. I am a huge proponent of statement glasses, because they aren't going unnoticed no matter what, so better make em amazing.

I had the same issue in the past when I wore glasses frequently. But you look really pretty. Like Rachylou said, I think these earrings work particularly well because they're delicate and blend into your hair a bit. But I also think you could certainly go bolder with the earrings and still look great. After LisaP mentioned Bobbi Brown's penchant for wearing bold earrings and glasses together, I had to go look up some photos of her. She does it so well. I think you could totally pull it off too!

You are so cute! And those earrings totally work on you. :o) I have large glasses too and find that stud earrings look better with them. It's a cleaner look, especially with business clothing, so I know where you are coming from when you ask. Based on everyone's comments, maybe I will play with longer earrings with my glasses.

Your earrings and glasses look FAB. I have long hair and wear dangly earrings with my sunglasses/glasses frequently: as my hair is dark, I find that anything too small tends to "get lost".

First off, you are so pretty!

Second, when I wore specs all the time, I had this same difficulty. It's not a difficulty for everyone, mind you. If a person's style veers to maximal, they won't mind it at all. It also depends on head and face shape and height and overall scale. For myself, I found it tricky -- one or the other (specs OR earrings) already seemed like quite a lot on my petite frame.

But I think you have mastered some tricks that make it work. I didn't have long hair, which meant I couldn't make earrings blend with hair, so my own strategy was to use them to balance some element in the outfit (be it colour or shine or what have you.) If I wear dangling earrings I rarely wear necklaces. Again -- personal preference.

I wear glasses and earrings every day. On Monday I forgot the earrings and wanted to turn around and drive home! But I sucked it up. It's because I don't feel dressed without something in the holes.
You look gorgeous in these pics. Other Fabbers have said dangly earrings are better with long hair but I like them with my short pixie, they show against my bare neck. I don't feel they compete with the specs. I don't wear scarves though and not that many necklaces either.

This looks so lovely. I have some Tiffany glasses frames that are black on the front but light blue on the inside. I find my earrings that have a similar colour blue co-ordinate nicely with my glasses. A light contrast and not competing. I like your guidelines, they would work well for me too.

You look lovely. I ponder this too. I think this works so well because the earrings are delicate against the clean but heavier frame of the glasses. But for instance, I'm bothered by blingy glasses and big button earrings. This is *too* 80s for my tastes, although I feel Sophia Loren could do it successfully.

I think it depends on the glasses themselves - I'd say yours don't compete too much with the earrings because your glasses still show a lot of your face. But I also think they'd look lovely with your hair up too. That might looks more secretary or edgy though, depending on the combination.

Angie's post on accessories brought to mind a question I ask every time I open my jewelry cabinet: can I wear dangly earrings with my glasses? I wear glasses 95% of the time but love drops and chandeliers and hoops etc... but don't wear them as much as I like so as not to compete with my glasses. I'm a little embarrassed to admit how much I ponder this... but was glad to see that Janet and Lisap contend with this too!

I happen to be wearing a pair of dangly Gorjana earring from Nordstrom Rack today. A recent new favorite are the Madewell tassel earrings in the find below, but I've only worn them a handful of times so far.

A few of my lessons-learned for when I do wear dangly earrings:
- wearing my hair down helps, especially with texture/curl
- low contrast earrings won't compete with my high-contrast glasses as much
- I can occasionally go for bolder high-contrast earrings (a la Jenna Lyons) but have to be ok with the edgier look

I'd love to hear others' thoughts and tips on pairing glasses with earrings!
