Hmm, I think marbling should work provided your dye is not super miscible with water since you need it to float. Oil based paint works best but I don't know if you can have oil based dye; alcohol based things might work too... I think I remember that acrylic paint actually works (if printing on paper).

I think what I'd do is do a base dye in the emerald color, then do the marbling with the metallics. You could mix the emerald with the metallic for an additional layer as well.

Ooh, love the links. I think marbling might be difficult with my slouchy hobo bag, but maybe I can combine these two techniques. They both seem to involve printing with a fluid bubble of ink/paint.

Christieanne, it's suede. I don't mind messing up the nap, though.

Not sure if it would work with leather but it reminds me of silk marbling

I've been wanting to ask this all day and finally have a moment!

I have a bag waiting to be dyed, and I wanted to do an emerald green version of the bag below in #1. Kind of like an oil slick effect. I have a fair idea of what I'd try, but I wanted to see if anyone had advice.

I've found the dye to make the emerald color, and I was thinking antique gold dye to get the shimmery look. There is also copper, bright gold, bright silver, and antique silver available - should I get any of those in addition? Each color is going to cost about $14 because of shipping costs.
