I do have a pair of J Brand bootcuts that are midrise and work great. Most places seem to carry their low-rise models (I believe the numbers start with 9), but there are usually mid-rise versions that may work for you - I think the numbers start with 8. Shiny has had success with them and she also has narrow hips. I'm not that curvy but I do have a very round and very high bum, and they are usually too slim cut for me. My problems with jeans are the same as yours...want straight or skinny but a mid rise and have no hips to keep the junior styles that fit otherwise up.
