Re: Weather conditions
I highly recommend the website yr.no, which offers DETAILED 9-day weather forecasts in English and Norwegian for more than 700,000 places in Norway and 6.3 million places worldwide.

(yr.no is the joint online weather service from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute and the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation.
Fun (?) fact: The meteorological meaning of the Norwegian word "yr" is "light drizzle." )

So, all I can say is that having lived in the West/Southwest, the temperature can say 60 degrees one day, but then a wind picks up like the witches are coming. And then it (feels) super, super cold.

And without looking it up, I feel that might happen in this part of the world. So I would think about what makes me feel invincible/comfortable on those days. Like a thin pair of leggings/thermals under pants--I automatically put those on on a cloudy, 45 degree day. A turtleneck. A gaiter scarf or infinity scarf. Gloves. A good hat to cover the ears. A thermal undershirt. High socks, like knee socks or crew socks. You get the idea.

Karie, I'm so glad the jet lag advice helped! It works quite well for me, at least in the summer months. I'm not sure it works as well in the winter, when it is harder to control light exposure. It worked well for me and my family on our recent trip, too.

Hope you have a wonderful time!!

Suz, I wish that my wardrobe was more colorful than it is - I have an abundance of navy, some white and some pink, but I’d like to add some other bright colors to the mix. BTW, I followed your advice on how to avoid jet lag last year for my trip to Switzerland and then again to Iceland, and it worked like a charm! I will be doing it again for this trip.

The Cat, when I look on the weather apps it looks like Norway is having weather in the 60s with a lot of rain. I hope it at least stops raining by the time I get there!

NancyW, I live near Albany, NY and it currently is very wet and rainy here. I do own rain pants and I’m bringing them.

RobinF, I did put in two more tops. I always try to pack everything for me and DH into two suitcases, but I’m tired of wasting the time and energy it takes to do that. Three suitcases it is!

This is so exciting! It sounds as if you are well prepared but I agree with those who say bring something for if it is warmer (on land) and also something (like a hat) for the colder temps. I would also wear colourful clothes (as it looks like you have chosen) because, well, because it seems right! You'll have long long days (or a lot of daylight) and that will be joyful and you will want to be a bit festive sometimes!

ETA also an eye mask, as it mentions in cat2's terrific link. Very smart advice!

Kookaburra and Runcarla, yes, I should throw in a few easily packable clothes for warmer weather. When we were in Switzerland last year, it was warmer than expected in the villages and colder than I expected in the mountains (snow and skiing in August!).
MsMary, rain pants are a good idea, and I do have a pair. I always pack long underwear as I am always cold. I have a few lighter weight ones that can double as pjs.

Plan for cool evenings and nights, but days can get quite warm. Norway is shockingly GOGEOUS. We were there in August years back, and mostly wore shorts and sometimes jeans with various tops including t-shirts, however we always started and ended the day with a fleece topper. There is snow at some elevations - even in summer! Our time was spent in some obscure place called Nytun, where my dad had a cottage (long story) and we visited Alesund and Bergen. Fun fact - my first avatar photo when I joined YLF was of a photo taken during that Norway trip! I was wearing an olive green fleece top.

Bruges is beautiful. We visited it in September as a side trip when we went to Amsterdam and Rotterdam. So much to see in such a small package, but I could have spent more than the one day we allotted and still not seen everything. You can dress up a bit more, but be prepared for cobblestone walkways.

The one question I ask myself when I pack is: what if it's somewhat warmer or colder than what I anticipate? It seems you have packed well for the cold. But what if it's warmer? When I was in Norway at a similar time of the year, it was freezing on the boat, but then when we got to Geiranger (where we were staying overnight) it was absolutely boiling! As they are light to pack, I'd make sure you have shorts, a short-sleeve T-shirt and a packable sun hat in the mix.

You mention going to the Arctic Circle. We went to Barrow (Utqiagvik), Alaska several years ago, in June. Maybe it’s further north than you’re going, but there was a lot of snow on the ground, and it barely got above freezing while we were there. I needed to wear very warm clothes.

Sal, Lucy, and Angie, yes, I am planning on bringing a knit hat and a few Uniqlo tops and bottoms, I forgot to include them in the pic. A scarf is a good idea, I’ll pack that too. I was debating on a second fleece and a cute knit top - I had them out, then put both back in the closet. I hate to pack too much, but then it’s even worse to not have packed enough!

We have a similarish trip planned for 2026, so I'm following with interest!
Take what I say with a grain of salt, as I live in the sub-tropics, and have always run cold. so will feel the chill more than many. But I would add in a couple of Uniqlo heat tech tops for the mountain days, and maybe a second fleece. Also a hat and scarf?
But you may not see these temps as very cold :)

DH and I are headed out on a cruise to Norway and the Arctic Circle, and as always, I struggle with what to pack.

It looks like temps will be in the 45-65 degree range. Not counting flying days, we will be there for 10 days.

- In Geiranger, we will be hiking to Storseter Waterfall and then to a farm.
- In Homingsvag, we will be going to North Cape (I think it’s a lookout).
- In Haugesund, Alesund, Flam, and Bruges (Belgium), we will be sightseeing, going to Fjords, up mountains (not hiking).

Here’s what I have packed:
For excursions:
Two pairs of LL Bean cargo pants (for the fjords and mountains excursions)
One pair of jeans (sightseeing)
One pair of hiking pants
One moisture wicking tee shirt
Two Eddie Bauer button down shirts
One fleece top
Rain jacket
Puffer jacket
Packable Travelon Backpack (my fav travel backpack)

For Dinner:
Three pairs dress pants
Two tops (I can also wear the Eddie Bauer shirts)

For morning walks (I walk a few miles every morning on the ship’s track):
Two pairs lightweight sweat pants
Two long sleeve tees

Not pictured, but I’ll also bring a pair of dressy shoes, sneakers, and hiking sneakers.

What do you think? Too much of something, not enough of something else? What are your suggestions?
