Summer can be warm but can also be very wet – be prepared for both. Check bbc.co.uk/weather/before your trip to get the most accurate forecast. Don’t be surprised if it’s grey and gloomy in the summer!

If
the forecast calls for sun, be bright and bold as you plan what to pack
for London! Crack out the summer dresses, sunglasses and hats. Once
again, be aware of the breezes so you might want to consider layering –
sometimes jersey skirts and dresses hold their shape better than wispy
skater styles.

Thank you, ladies.
Christina, I will certainly check out The Vivienne Files for inspiration.
Atlantia, your suggestions are right up my alley. I was thinking along the lines of tailored jeans, trousers, skirts, layering tops and cardigans, a few pairs of flats, walking shoes, and to Louise's suggestion, a trench and umbrella. Scarves and jewelry should complete the look.
Now, I just need to work on a colour capsule. That's an entirely new concept of packing/travel for me. Usually, I just throw together outfits from single pieces I like without considering if they work together.
My DH usually packs for me and I'm sure he will be quite surprised, and pleased, if I can pull this off.

Thanks again!

Mary

I think you should take a look at the blog The Vivienne Files. Her packing suggestions are fabulous!
http://theviviennefiles.blogsp.....el/packing

My only suggestion - start with two pair of comfortable shoes.

I was in London last summer, and I wore a uniform of straight leg bottoms, embellished top, light cardi or shrug, and light scarf. I wish I had brought more than just the one jacket. Even though it was summer, I wore my lightweight jacket every single day.

Hello YLF friends,

I am going to London with my family this summer with side trips to Belfast and Paris.
I find that when I pack for a winter holiday I have no problem but casual summer outfits throw me for a loop. I'm estimating the temperature in London to be in the low 70's during the day to 50's and 60's at night; maybe a little cooler in Belfast.

We will be staying with my MIL most of the time so I will have access to a washer and dryer. We will be doing sightseeing and shopping during the day, some dinners out at night but I don't think we will have fancy nights out....okay, maybe one.

The concept of a capsule is new to me but it's a fantastic idea! I would like to break away from the jeans/t-shirt uniform. The only definite thing on my list so far is my beige London Fog trench. Any suggestions of what I could pack for summer outfits?

Thanks in advance!

Mary
