I also agree that the two bag idea is excellent! Since you are travelling by car, adding a few extra pieces is not a big deal.

Hope the spa trip is as relaxing and refreshing a it sounds!

I also like the idea of packing a bag for the retreat, and another for everything else, anchie. Nodding along with Sal, Jonesy and Suz.

Spa trip sounds AMAZING, and excellent therapy to counter the more emotional part of the trip. Have a wonderful time, take care, and safe travels.

I believe those minimum temps will only be in the early hours of the morning. I mentioned that the wool coat may not be necessary because you asked. I agree if you in a car and space is not an issue take as many as you want/need. Beware of leaving a coat in your car unattended as someone mentioned in the thread as it may spur on a break-in. I also think two bags sounds like a good idea and not confusing it by trying to overlap.

I agree - two bags - there might be some cross over from the first few days that you could plan for but you could keep it completely seperate.

Endorsing the two bag idea. Work on the travel capsules and do your packing on different days, because it seems you’ll need a different mind-set for each.

Yes, I too think that packing 2 separate bags would be the way to go As well, I like the idea of a trench coat that could be layered over a puffer for temperature fluctuations and as well as for the dressier occasions. Definitely bring along some pretty scarfs for warmth and variety.

I like the two bag idea too. I’d leave one pair of sweats and the white jeans out. It *is* a pain when you’re changing locations a lot to be lugging a lot. Me, I’d take the navy coat and the puffer…

It's a complicated trip emotionally and also in terms of activities. I love your idea to pack one suitcase for the retreat (mostly lounge and gear type items with perhaps smarter casual for suppers/ evenings) and another suitcase for the city days/ parental duties/ court, visits with friends. In that case, the breakdown will seem more obvious. I do not think 3 coats is too much for 8 days in such varying conditions, considering you will have a car. Since you wear blazers well, a blazer for the court day might be a good idea.

It is complicated trip and I am thinking that I should maybe think of it as 2 different trips and pack 2 suitcases accordingly? I don’t see lot of overlap between outfits for first 2-3 days and the spa stay.

I agree with Sal: When I drive somewhere I tend to pack a lot more than when I fly, since you'll have plenty of room and you can always leave your puffer or other large coat in the car on days you don't wear it. This is a complicated trip, with lots of different requirements! Your spa stay sounds simply amazing! I am terrible with packing advice, so I will only suggest a versatile blazer as a smart option and perhaps for dinner, over all sorts of shirts, t-shirts, shells, etc., and plenty of lounge wear for your spa trip.

I think you need four- five gear outfits for the retreat but probably only two swimsuits. Evenings there could be jeans or loungewear I think- I imagine it would be comfortable and easy clothing. It sounds restorative after a hard week.

Given you have a car and could leave things in it I would not hesitate to take the three coats if you want to.

I'd leave the puffer jacket as it can be replaced by the white jacket under the trench :)

I'd add a scarf to protect when it's too windy.

I don’t want to take all, those are just options that I am mulling over. But I would need something more casual for biking and trail walks, so 2 coats is minimum. Just this big difference in night and day temperatures is making me unsure, wool coat is probably too much for 20C during the day. Maybe layering of trenchcoat and white puffer is solution?

For me 3 coats/jackets seems like a lot of for 8 days... Maybe you could lose the puffer then? Or you can used your trench at night with a blouse and cardi under?

I am packing for 8 days trip and I am little stumped, and would appreciate some advice. I have probate court hearing Tusday at 12h in my home town which is 6h car ride away. Plan is to leave Tuesday early in the morning and drive straight to the court. After the hearing I will run couple of errands, visit my mom's grave, meet with some friends for dinner and spend night there. Wednesday we leave early and drive another 3 hours to visit my dad who is again in hospital. After that we will run couple of errands, go shopping for my father's needs and meet friends for dinner. We are spending night there and Thursday morning we again go visit my dad and after that drive 2 hours to a Wellness Resort where I have enrolled in 5 nights healthy spine retreat. While there I will have intensive physical therapy with 4 different individual sessions each day, spend time in pools and saunas, go for massages and beauty treatments , participate in yoga and meditations classes, and walk or bike in nature, depending on the weather. I expect to spend days in bathing suits, bathrobes, exercise gear and loungewear. But I will probably get dressed in real outfits for dinner each night. We will spend 5 nights there and finally drive back home for about 3 hours. Since it is a car trip, I don't necessary need to pack light, but I don't want to overpack either. Since we will be staying in 3 different hotels, and first 3 days have very different itinerary then the rest, I am thinking of packing smaller bag for first 2 nights and bigger one for the spa days. My biggest issue is outerwear and shoes, weather will be very variable and level of dressines too. I probably need something smarter for visiting court, bank, lawyers, hospital and going for dinners, and something much more casual for anticipated activities in resort. I am considering items in finds but probably don't need all of them. What can I leave home? Am I forgetting something? How many bathing suits and exercise gear sets are you recommending? Shell I swap one pair of jeans for some dressier pants or skirt? Maybe packing hat and scarf would not hurt? I run cold. I have added weather forecast for the period both in C and F. Maybe trenchcoat instead of wool coat for first 3 days since weather will not be that bad but nights are still cold? I also have to make sure that everything still fits comfortably, especially jeans and swimwear, since I have gained some weight recently. I had to order 3 pairs of sweatpants. I haven’t refreshed them since 2020, and they were looking worn but also getting tight. All 3 new pairs are in finds, but not sure if I need to take all 3.
