Angie, are socks and trouser socks different in your mind? And if so, how? I guess I think of socks as a catchall that includes trouser socks.

I never wear socks with oxfords because I don't fancy the look. But I do wear knee-highs and hose! I will wear trousers socks with trousers and my heeled oxfords.I LOVE to wear socks though - that's why I like booties. They work well with socks.

Thank you for the votes and suggestions!

I am enough of a fashion zombie that I think I will still aim for some kind of compromise that keeps the whole outfit from looking too heavy or "manly", or maybe a better way to put it is I want to try to wear them in some way that is my own kind of look, whether or not it's a runway look.

Lace-up shoes (low-heeled) can often just really make my feet happy, and so I hope to have a pair or so here and there when they are "in style" in some form or another.

I'm all for socks for warmth and comfort . Are we supposed to have cold blue feet for the sake of look ? I love the nice argyle socks that I wear with my loafers and and sod the "law". On numerous blogs, you can see many photos of barefoot women wearing winter coats: I find it as ridiculous as wearing woolly gloves with a swimming suit.

I think you should do what works for you:) Personally I don't like socks. I wear little sockette type things similar to what Diana has posted - but mine are more a thick stocking like fabric - so that it looks like I am not wearing socks. Alternately, I wear a nude stocking sock, again so it's looks as though I am bare footed. I just prefer the look. I find it more streamlined and I just don't enjoy the look of socks.

I'm not wearing anything higher vamped than loafers without socks either! At best, stockings or nude tights even. But no socks, no go, for oxfords, booties and boots!

Yay to oxfords with socks. I have worn mine with little ruffled ankle socks (which is, admittedly, a kind of twee look but it's fun). Under long pants I just wear normal socks. Just don't wear horrid white athletic socks and you're fine. I also have these smartwool secret socks which are fab and don't show under my oxfords so I get a sockless look without the discomfort.

I am a firm believer in socks. It's cold out there!

Seriously, though, in my climate, if socks are not viable with the shoe, then no shoe. I am not sure why oxfords would not be completely appropriate with socks. Men wear oxfords, and they always wear socks with them!

I wear most of my oxfords with (thin) socks and I don't see any problem with it at all! I wear them with all sorts of trouser styles also.

The only closed toed shoes I can stand to wear w/o socks are soft flats, and I wear flesh colored peds with those. I also have narrow feet, and depending on the outfit, I either wear nylons, tights, or women's trouser socks with my shoes.
I personally think oxford shoes would look best with women's trouser socks.

I've never really been good at wearing closed-toe shoes without socks, even pumps. Oxfords, especially, would seem to be very sweaty even if all-leather construction. I'd go for the socks!

I'm wearing mine now with very thin stocking socks. I wear black to blend in with the dark shoes and dark pants. I also wear nude to appear sock less. I think it works!

So I have always enjoyed "laceup" shoes because of my narrow foot (esp. heel) and the secure feeling--good for striding. I had oxford-type shoes in several past decades when they were in here and there. I also just like how they look if I find the right pair that don't make my feet look more ginormous.

The trend has been to be sockless, to be with tapered or cropped pants or shorts or skirts. But sockless is not me, except for canvas-type shoes.

And the point of oxfords for me would be as an option for what I would use as a comfortable, secure work-shoe wardrobe, and while I'd try some tapered pants if I can find some, that's a harder go for pear shape and for work wear. And I would always wear at least a thin sock, even if lace or something.

Which I've already done with some faux-patent oxfords I got earlier this year.

Is this fashion heresy, and do I care, or am I setting my own style, which is what we are supposed to do, to some extent, anyway?

I'm very willing to try some intentional ways to "fit" closer to the trend expectation or to offset the masculine features. Such as, if a more fun color or pattern helps; if combining with a very feminine top and jewelry helps. But probably the bottom half would still look like trousers + oxfords which, dumb me, I thought was part of the point, at one time--like a Hepburn look or something.

So yay--experiment with oxfords + socks and buck the styling conventions.

Nay--forego because people will laugh at me behind my back and I might care.
