Yes Kim I think I will need to shop. I'm low on Summer clothes in general. I've been purging & haven't found replacements:)

Don't forget they have shops in Australia ...I make it my habit to buy an article or two of clothing as when I travel.

Elle, can I encourage you to factor in comfort as a priority. We are starting to get the warmer weather and simple outfits are a good way to go in the heat. I know you're an Aussie so you know what to expect:). As far as colours go, I find grey and white a fresh, summery combo. Black can be good for traveling for the reasons you mention and black is still a dominant colour in Melbourne. I'm not so good at travel capsules but perhaps see if you can start by segmenting your trip. Start with the part of the holiday staying with your mum. What will you be doing there and what will you need? Then move on to the Melbourne segment and see what items might cross over and what you need to add, etc.

BJ I'm going Dec 4 for 2 months. Mostly I will be in Melbourne or at my Mums in rural Victoria but a few days meeting parents in law in Brisbane then driving the coast to Melbourne. A lot of time will be spent in Melbourne. There will be a 60th birthday party with all my relatives & some pre Christmas parties I would think. I have black coated jeans & a sequin tank & a black shift dress that would be OK for dressing up. The beach will be more casual but a smaller part of the trip. I could wear the long dress at in laws one day but probably should take clam diggers in case I don't find anymore dresses before I go there. I don't really want to be in my high on the thigh length shorts there.

when are you going? i think you will be able to pack well for the summer, as long as you don't mind getting a bit bored with your capsule.

in the height of summer in brisbane and the gold coast, anything that youmwould wear in la or vegas...beachy would be a style vibe. in melbourne, stylistically closer to new york so dress accordingly. but you'll have more fashion shopping options in melbourne to replenish your style. in sydney, i didn't wear jeans ...too hot. mostly sundresses and yoga pants, tank tops and tees. all of varying levels of formality. dressed up with jewelry or scarves.

I'm trying to plan my capsule. With such a long trip laundry is inevitable so that doesn't come into it. I will be on beaches & in hot humid weather as well as cities & milder weather & cooler weather too. I'm allowed 2 x 50 pound checked bags.

I was thinking of mostly neutrals to make mixing & matching easier. I was thinking black, white, grey & denim with some bright tops or scarves. Should I take more black than white because it shows less dirt or more white because it is Summer? Should I leave out grey because it is not Summery? Should I take a black or beige every day large hobo purse? I triednot to use a black purse this past Summer in LA as I thought a red orbeige one was more Summery. I have a black or cream clutch for evening & am thinking black might be best, though cream one is more summery. My dressier outfits will be black.

How many pairs of jeans? How many shorts? How many Summer dresses?

Should I only take things I wore in Los Angeles this past Summer & assume that the other stuff I own didn't get worn because I don't feel fab in it or take 2 pairs of loose clam diggers for driving down East Coast from Brisbane to Melbourne, stopping at beaches. I don't feel fab in them. I mostly wore the same denim shorts & white cotton maxi dress in LA because I didn't like anything else I had. I'm willing to buy more dresses there but don't want to be short before I find anything.
