Yep, if I want to create the look in the pic, I think a different top would be better!
I think if I do get a button up, I would prefer something more shaped like these in Finds.

I’m late to this, but I am with Jaime on this one — it seems fine but not amazing, and a bit outside of your usual style. I wonder how much you’d actually enjoy wearing it. You are so deliberate and careful with your wardrobe additions that I can’t help but think you should hold out for a top that is more definitively a winner.

Thanks all! I'm definitely leaning towards return now, though may try the XS just in case.

Reasons:
It's 2 shifts away from my usual- the buttons and the dropped shoulder. Future purchases should be just 1 shift away.

It would probably take a long time to reach 30 wears, as it would be just transitional weather wear for me. We just don't have that much transitional weather.

It's not worth the hours of work I suffered for it. Frankly- that needs to be my main benchmark for Any purchase.

I liked how it looked on the model, but she had it tucked. I have a good 6+ inches of hips on her, and don't tuck, especially into pants. Even sized down I wouldn't get that vibe.

I already have other tops in my closet that I'd reach for more. The beige sweater hasn't even been worn yet, but it will work for colder days. Also- no fussing with buttons and no dropped shoulders. Admittedly the pants grinning through isn't great so will need a cami under.

The print top has buttons as a feature but they're sewn together, so again less fussy. The shape and length work much better on me than the beige blouse.

I'm moving towards preferring classic length/fit tops as opposed to tunics, and wanting to shift my pants to wider styles. I'm also moving towards fitted jackets as opposed to the loose cardis that work best with the blouse.

I really like the colour and the length. It looks great with the skinny bottoms. I agree you should try a size down.

I’m also not wild about dropped shoulders but it wouldn’t necessarily be a deal breaker for me. It would depend on how many other boxes it ticked. So I’ll leave that question to you!

Not sure, but I think I am zoning in on "passable or pass on". If it is just passable why keep? But try a size down for sure. It is not that I don't like the oversize look - it is just not your usual style and I wonder if you would enjoy wearing this.

Oh, I'm really on the fence with this one. I think it could work, but maybe a size down would work better? How's the fit across the bust?

I just bought my own dropped shoulder silk top, and the shoulder was a pro for me rather than a con. It made the blouse hang in a more casual and relaxed way than some others I tried. The more traditional cuts looked kind of like I'd just slipped off my suit jacket after a high-powered meeting, which is fine, but not really my vibe.

Good idea to try sizing down. This one is S, but it is still available in XS.
ETA for reference, I've been wearing size 6 lately.

I'd have liked to see one size down to compare......

That said, this is an on trend fashionable look that you pull off! I like #4, 6 and 7 in terms of toppers. The lengths look best proportionally, to my eye.

Scrunch the sleeves, and it looks good on its own too.

Try a side knot a-la-Janet too.

I am really liking the oversized shirt trend and plan to experiment with it too. However it is very easy to look like just a sloppy too big shirt. This one I prefer with the toppers which tells me it is the shoulders that I am not so keen on. I think for o/s to work the shoulders need to fit but I am definitely not an expert. Grayscale was trying o/s shirts fairly recently and the final one she got and showed near the end of that thread looked like an example I would like to copy. I think the high/low hem is better than straight if you have the shoulder fit right.

This is my first attempt at a button up in many years, and in my defense, it did not look that oversized in the pic.

My main problem with it is the dropped shoulder, which I generally avoid. Not sure about toppers either, cause it's so long. It's longer in back.
Considering buying a more classic shape shirt and dyeing if needed instead.

So here's a few versions- with jeans, with trousers, + toppers, with ponte pants and boots, with ponte pants and cardi, and as a jacket. It was Not Good with any of my skirts. Also tried with a belt, but the hips puffed out under it.
Pass it on or passable?
