Thanks for this post, you look amazing! I didn't realize so many other gals had belt phobia too.

I'm shortwaisted with a thick waist so I like to wear belts lower on my hips. I took the plunge with a $3 red patent belt from target in a size larger than I normally wear. It fits on my hips and has livened up so many pieces that I was getting bored with!

I like it most over longer tops or my black sheath dress so I can wear it loose. I encourage others who have belt phobia to give this a try. For $3 I've been really pleasantly surprised!

I can't wait to get one of those longer white woven tunic tops that Angie wrote about to try it with.

Forgot to say this belt is only 1 inch thick, I think that makes a difference!

Maya - I think you're wise to get the whole belt debate decided upon with Angie's expertise. I wish I could be in on the fun get-together! Have fun you two!

Angie, if I'm going to try belts, it has to be while you are there. I get depressed trying them by myself, but with YOU there, there is no way I will feel depressed regardless of the outcome. Either my instincts will be validated, or I'll be pleasantly surprised. Let's just do it, otherwise I'll spend the rest of my days wondering how my life might have been changed if I just went belt shopping with Angie that one day...

FABULOUS! Well done and cheers to your accomplishment. You are fab, SHS.

My dear Maya, it's all about having fun together next Sunday, so we can absolutely skip the belt shopping. I'm going to bring you a much loved skinny yellow belt that needs a new home. THAT can be the sum total of our belt adventure :0)

Thank you so much for all your nice comments! I think for me, I just don't have enough fashion sense on my own to know when it works, and when it doesn't. So this outfit came to together so well, because I had that Inspiration Calendar go-by...
That, of course, is why YLF is so WONDERFUL, because it gives me ideas to try, and also makes me feel OK when I read about others who stress about the same things. So thanks so much, everyone!!

Very nice idea....and nice blog too:)

I have a love/hate relationship with belts. I have a short waist so it takes just the right belt with just the right outfit...sometimes a bit of a struggle, but when it works I am very happy:)

Looks great, and I LOVE the jacket you found. You are so incredibly thrifty! That's awesome when you can replicate an outfit with budget-priced items - no one would ever know the difference. You look so professional and polished.

I've slowly tried to overcome belt phobia myself, and I agree with you that sometimes there's an overkill of belting in the style blogging community, but it's good to at least know I'm capable of wearing a belt without feeling completely goofy and over-trendy.

I love your outfit and your 28 cubed challenge. What a fab idea! I'll be following along.

So, I think I figured out what it is I don't like about the pressure to wear belts:

Everyone has something they aren't happy and secure about. That is why dressing in a way that camouflages what you don't like and emphasizes what you DO like is so important. Pear-shaped gals who might be a little more shy about their hips don't get called shorter-top-phobic. Small-busted ladies don't get told that they are plunging-neckline-phobic just because they don't want to draw attention to their bonier chests. So why is it so bad for me to say that I don't want a belt to draw attention to my waist with a belt? My concerns are very real! Every time I go belt shopping, I just end up feeling depressed because the whole experience is spent focusing on a part of me that I don't like. No other body type seems to be pressured to do this with the parts that they don't love, which is why it bugs me. I don't like my waist. I prefer to bypass it and not draw attention to it, and focus on other things instead. I wouldn't tell someone who doesn't like her hips, bust, legs, etc. that they need to put a spotlight on them, which is what a belt does to my thick waist. I realize some people can't live without belts, and that they truly add something to their wardrobe and make some of their tops work, but I don't think that kind of reliance is necessarily a good thing and it certainly isn't a prerequisite to looking stylish. I'm going to try belts anyway next weekend with Angie, but my expectations are pretty low. I do have a stretchy 2" belt, which is supposedly great for me, but I still find it neither flattering nor comfortable (no I'm not posting pics). If that one doesn't work, I am not sure why another style would.

Sorry, SS, for going on this tangent, but your thread reminded me of it. I do think you look good with a belt though! If it was comfy, more power to you.
