I find that I always stick to a regular fine gold chain and then sometimes add the longer ones like the one in picture 1.

Sterling-I took classes at a local bead shop, Michaels, and a craft store that is no longer in business. I have only taken classes in bead stringing and wire wrapping, none of that advanced stuff like soldering, etc. most is easy , but takes awhile to get good at it. Hardest thing for me is crimping. For stringing I use mid size Beadalon. Am learning that it is best to use bigger crimp beads and use crimp bead covers. Another thing that takes some practice is making the loops with the head pins. There are lot of tutorials on line and U-tube videos. I find tutorials on Pinterest also. On line I buy from jewelrysupply.com, and Fire Mountain Jems. Michaels has a lot of beads, lots of sales and good tools. Bead shops are expensive but good sources of those special ones, or hard to find bead caps, connectors and things that make something more special.

Easiest thing to start with is a chain and pendant type. Michaels has a good selection of chains in all kinds of metals. If you have a locla Michaels, Hobby Lobby, or some craft store check if they give classes. Also bead stores will be happy to teach you as they always want customers. Another thing is if you visit a craft fare there are always jewelry vendors there and you can ask them if they know of local classes.

Let me know how it goes. PM me if you have questions. I will post photos of my new projects.

Lovely! I love the look of 7. I have black bone and pearl necklaces that I very rarely wear together, but really enjoy it when I do!

The only problem that I have with the longer weightier necklaces is that they tend to bounce when I walk, so I try to avoid those that give too much swing, or am careful when I wear them!

Thank you for sharing these pictures. My favorites are numbers 3 and 8. As always, they are very instructional.

I am especially interested in your future design plans. They sound especially lovely.

Three questions, if you don't mind.
1. How do you finish the clasp?
2. Where do you find your materials?
3. What do you use as "string" or "cord?"

After having "talked" to you, I looked into taking jewelry making classes at the local university. They only had one beginning class. The timing wasn't right but I will continue to check their class schedules.

Oh, and in terms of shopping, I didn't find any necklaces to buy, but I did find one pair of really great earrings. I bought them.

I really like these, especially the style in photo 2. They really make a difference but they're not heavy or flashy looking and they can be added easily to so many outfits.

Think you for sharing this with us. I am never sure how many necklaces I can wear. Just last evening I put on from one to five strands. Finally ended up wearing one goldtone shorter one in the neckline of the blouse I wore.

You have some good ideas on necklaces to make for yourself. You are very talented.

On my little trip I browsed a few small boutiques and was impressed with multi strand necklaces with from 2 to 5 or 6 strands of small beads. Also some pendant and chain ones. A lot were displayed with various kinds of tops. At our Saturday night event one lady was wearing about 5 strands of small varied beads, pearls, some shiny silver, some sparkly, etc. and it was very pretty. Just thought I would share--I am making two or three with gold and some red for the holidays, and maybe two or three strands of bronze, copper, silver, etc. to wear with dull neutrals.
