Yes, feel better!

My problem with boxes is that I want to hoard them. Especially "nice" ones. Since I downsized my living space 6 months ago, I've tried to be ruthless. Luckily now I can take the elevator down and throw the boxes into the dumpster that's for cardboard!

I love your polished style. You look competent and attractive!

Would you believe I came down with a fever and have been asleep most of the day? I haven't been sick in two years. Keeping my fingers crossed that this passes before Tuesday.

Joyce, Trendin425- thank you!

Fathenry, Another dressy person in a casual tech environment. Good to hear I'm not alone.

Suz, Glad to hear we're not the only ones with a box problem. When we moved into our house, we bought almost all our household items and even some furniture online. I still have bad dreams about all the boxes around our house. Yes, I will iron it but only because you pointed it out. I would have let it hang while I showered but last week's ironing post made me feel I should step up my game.

Nancywalters, I actually don't wear bracelets *but* my in-laws just gave me a really nice red bracelet that they would be thrilled to see me wearing on my first day at work. Thanks for the idea! I have already it laid it on top of my sweater so I don't forget.

CindyS, Thanks for listening!

Cocolion, I wonder if retailers understand how much of an issue the boxes are for their customers. I love when they put small items in a slim plastic bag. I will definitely iron it. I wouldn't have thought it needed it, but the camera doesn't lie.

Shedev, the wardrobe reduction actually makes it easier to get dresses and I actually think I wear more varied and interesting outfits.

Angie, I have really enjoyed my style refresher and new closet approach! No one in my real life gets it, but to me it is the equivalent of losing a lot of weight. It feels great, like a real achievement.

Kkards, thank you!

Aida, Another gal in tech! The nice part is we get to make our own rules.

Caro in Oz: Okalas are the best! The black and white ones go with everything. Thanks for listening.

Congrats on the new job Suja! How exciting. I like your planned outfits for the week, a very nicely polished set that doesn't feel overly dressy. As another gal in tech, I hear you on the casualness and rarity of women in the field; I also wear what I want and veer to the dressy end of casual. Great new goals too, hopefully they continue to work for you.

This is a fantastic set! My only suggestion would be to iron the top for Wednesday's outfit as the wrinkled look would work better with an off-day, boyfriend jeans kind of outfit.

I enjoyed reading about your closet management techniques. It's always inspiring to read about successes with 1 in, 1 out. I hear you on the boxes! I have a pile of them in need of reduction myself. I like Shopbop because they always get everything into one box, no matter. Also Zara does too. Nordstrom never does, and other retailers like UO are also guilty of multiple boxes. So is Amazon.

A nice and varied collection. It would be helpful to know your job and work environment to judge the appropriateness of the outfits. I do like the last one the best. When I looked at the first one I thought that perhaps a chunky red bracelet could bring a bit more color into it.
The Wednesday pants and shoe could lend itself to any number of different tops. The white loafers look great with that skirt for Thursday!
I like your style!

Congratulations on the new job! And also on your wardrobe rebuilding process. It sounds as if you have made tremendous strides! In terms of the boxes issue...if you are buying less, you'll be returning less (and recycling fewer boxes) - no? So it really should ease off for a while. My husband and I, in a wild buying phase, took to taking our boxes in the car to a large local recycling bin -- they did not require them to be broken down there. We also save a few boxes in different sizes for returns or gifts we might send to others.

Your first week's outfits look great. #1 looks polished and professional. #3 with the skirt is lovely, and will give you confidence since it's a common formula for you. Love the pants outfits, too.

You look smashing in the silhouette of #2. Will you iron the top beforehand? (Said by the ironoholic....)

Love the blush and white jeans!!

Love Day 1 and Friday is beautiful! I have that same Vince Camuto top in yellow. Never thought of pairing it with a skirt, it looks great on you. Your goal of prepping your clothes the night before is smart. I also found it helpful when I started my new job was to have a capsule of clothes that all mix and match, and hang all those clothes together so they are easy to pull together in the morning. When I add new pieces, they have to match the work capsule. Hope that makes sense. I also started out dressy at a casual tech company and I'm glad I did.

Hello All-

Next Tuesday, I am starting a new job! I am so excited about this career opportunity- the people are great, the size of the organization is just right and the challenges are exactly in areas where I would like to learn and grow.

While I am gearing up to dive into this new role, I thought I would reflect on my style goals and share the first week's outfits which I have planned out.

My style goals were to:

1) practice 1 in/1 out
2) Reduce the size of my wardrobe by 10%
3) Experiment with trends and new looks.

With help from Angie, I have had a radical style transformation. I have reduced the size of my wardrobe by 50% to less than 120 items, not including t-shirts, pajamas or exercise clothes. I have also been religious about practicing 1 in/1 out. And I do the 1 in/1 out on my new reduced wardrobe, not just replacing the purged stuff. I also have several trendy and current items which I am playing around with. My style and closet has changed so radically that I think it is appropriate to set new style goals for 2014. They are:

1) Continue 1 in/1 out. The only exception are shoes which I do practice 1 in/ 1 out on but the ones taken out go into a holding zone rather than to the donate pile. Comfortable shoes are hard to come by, so I would rather save than purge them. However, the number of shoes in rotation will remain constant.

2) Reduce the number of packages to the house from online shopping. The breaking down of boxes before recycle day has become a ritual at our house and I'm tired of it. I'm also tired of making trips to the mall just to return stuff. My goal is the get less packages. That might mean ordering more at one time (although that can backfire from places like Nordstrom) or more importantly, buying more in store. Many stores have a shop online and reserve or pick up in store and I want to use this more. I also am willing to drive 10-15 miles out of my way to pick up something at a local store rather than get another package. I guess I should have a more measurable package reduction goal than "less" but I have no idea what the baseline is, so I'm just going to go with Less.

3) Plan my work outfits in advance. The mornings are busy and I sometimes have a tendency to grab the same known workhorses rather than mixing it up with more interesting stuff. My goal is to plan my work outfits in advance so I can try new pairings and make sure I am using all the clothes I have.

Ok, I put it out there.

If you're still reading, I would love feedback on my outfits for the first week! I start on Tuesday so it is a four day week. I work in the tech industry in a role that has both technical and business responsibilities. There are very few women on the technical side and most people are super casual. Being one of few women and far enough along in my career, I wear what I want. Of course office appropriate, but I don't try to fit in. Rather I embrace that I like dressy looks, eye-catching colors and skirts and dresses. I'll start off fairly conservative (for me) but once I get established, I will wear more fashion forward looks.

On to the outfits.
Tuesday: A classic black and white palette with a pop of red. This is the First Day Outfit.
Wednesday: Ankle pants with ankle straps!
Thursday: Jade pencil skirt with white loafers. I have a lot of colored bottoms, so this is a well used formula for me.
Friday: My new favorites- white jeans. This outfit is inspired by Angie's white and blush outfit last week.

I will wear a topper or coat everyday and will be wearing hunter boots or slip-on sneakers for the commute depending on the weather.

Looking forward to your thoughts!
