Maneera, back when I wore blazers, I liked some of them with skirts and some with pants, but often I found that for me, a blazer might not go as swimmingly with both. It's a length and proportion thing, I think. Maybe that's part of what's going on here, too, because I love that blazer and skirt outfit--it is just fabulous on you.

You've gotten some great advice already --- I've been wearing long blazer over shorter top, or shorter jacket over a longer, almost tunic length this year. I also feel better about a red/black color combo if I add a third accent color: white or gray, for example.

Love the blouse!

I'm boiling it down to the fit of the jeans - because not feeling great in your jeans is enough to make ANY outfit feel less than fab.

I think the blazer would look peppier in this combination if it were shorter, actually.

Yup, I agree Lyn. I did pair the blazer with a skirt earlier last week and that was a far better outfit as a whole

Gorgeous top, but an average outfit(thus not at all that bad that you think-but not perfect, either) and think it's in the pairing of this particular longer, looser fluid fit top and the blazer-which seems a tinny bit too snug and short, somehow. Think the blazer would still work with some thinner, stretchy tops underneath-but with this one it's only an 8:-).

While I am all for unconventional silhouettes, I am finding this lacking some definition and is not flattering your lovely figure. I think I would like to see a jacket that it nipped in at the waist:)

The jeans look like pants to me, which is not necessarily a problem, but it is if that's not the look you wanted. The top is lovely on you, and I love it paired with the necklace. It's a great top for bootcut jeans. I agree a shorter or longer jacket could work better.

Sally, I so get what you're saying. You're a GENIUS!

This outfit consists of pieces that look really good on their own (when worn with other things) but do not look good together at all. I think they simply don't belong together....since neither the top nor the blazer are a true-blue classic cut. And together they create no juxtaposition or harmony either....they're best worn separately.

Thanks a ton!

The top is a fabourite, Lucy. Thanks

Denise, these are high rise jeans. They don't fall off my body (thanks to curves) but I hate it when stretchy bootcuts look saggy on the thighs. Then they just remind me of baggy jeans I wore as a teenager that fit absolutely nowhere, were held up with a belt, but were 'so cool' with band tshirts. Not a look I want to revisit in public (Though I confess that I love to wear cosy oversized sweatshirts and baggy jeans at home on cold but crisp days when I know I'll be doing the laundry and ironing alongside work).

I think this looks fine as is. If there weren't the blazer, the top might be too horizontally cutting, slicing your body in half. But the jacket mitigates that. I'm assuming both the jacket and jeans are black and match each other for a sort of suit effect. If they don't match IRL, that might explain some of your unease. (They look matched in the photos.)

I hear you about stretch in jeans. I am yanking up jeans all day long because I don't like buying them tight, I'm just resigned to it now. Higher rise jeans tend to slide on me less, probably because I am curvy.

Hmmm, I almost wonder if a more shrunken jacket would look better - a longer one might be overwhelming.
It is hard to see the fit of the jeans, but with a looser top I agree fitted jeans would work best.
You look great in the top - what a great colour on you!

I don't dislike the look, but I agree I have seen you in better. I can't see the fit of the jeans from my screen, nor the jacket terribly well. I think the top length is the main issue as others have said. I also wonder if a touch of lightness somewhere would help - maybe a necklace with a sheen or even the right scarf to add in a third colour.

You are a lovely classic dresser but I think this is almost too classic...but the pieces are not spectacular classic. Does that make sense?

Thanks Joy. The top is a faux tuck style and I doubt I'll be able to tuck this much fabric smoothly. I could, however, fold it and add a thick belt. The belt may keep the fabric in place and give a smoother look. Definitely worth a try....thanks for the suggestion

I agree with Diane. A boyfriend blazer would be great, or you could tuck the top into higher rise jeans and just blouse it out a little.

You look very business casual here with the dark jeans and dark blazer. For a more smart casual look, I would like to see a little more contrast.

ETA: the fit on the jeans looks ok to me, but it's hard to tell with dark colors and photos. I hear you on the annoyance of jeans that stretch out though!

Good Morning, ladies!

I wore this outfit and did NOT love it. In theory, this should work, right! Bright crossover style top, trouser jeans in a dark color, fitted blazer. But this outfit looks odd, and I want to analyze why.

Diane G (who is usually the first one to see my outfits) mentioned that the problem is the similar length hem of the top & the blazer. She thought the blazer should be longer for this to look good (or the top should be shorter) as the hemlines are currently both battling for attention

I also think the jeans don't fit well now. I've worn them 2-3 times this year; they were bought this year. And I am sure this is the wrong size (lose around crotch, hips, upper thighs). I sized down for the blue pair and that fits better. It's a bummer....and I hope washing the jeans in the machine will shrink them enough (may have to wash after every wear) but I DO HATE ALL THIS STUPID STRETCH in jeans sometimes.

Any other problems you can see with the outfit? Colors? Fit? Style? I would really appreciate any help I can get.

Thanks in advance!
