I am going to have to put your tactic combined with Ornela's into practice. I have too many things that I wear too few times and your ways might help with a better rotation. Thanks for the advice. Love your family picture!

Ha ha... Your comments are making me laugh... The menu plan gets me teased by my girlfriends IRL. It's the one way I'm like a traditional 50s housewife. But it does work well in terms of nutrient variety and sticking to a grocery budget. Now I am going to try a capsule week. I love Ornela's theme weeks. They are brilliant.

Now we will want to see the looks you made from your 10 items! L

Thimbelina, I'm going to steal your meal plan. It sounds so sensible and easy.

Lynne I totally relate with your capsule idea. Sometimes it's easier to ajust acordingto the mood we wake up in.I also use that strategy in the end od each season when I have items that I didn't wear that often and won't be good for next season or in between seasons like now when I want to start wearing lighter colors and clothes and choose the ones that still give me enough coverage for the cold but feel and look lighter.
The colors you chose for this week are very springy and very beautiful, I'm sure you'll look great all week long.
Your bonus photo is so fun. I love walking outdoors when it's sunny but not very warm

Ornella, this is going to be your best week yet! So nice of you to plan a theme around my FAVOURITE colours :D!

Thimbelina, brilliant idea....we have Friday night as Pizza night (ie I don't cook). Now I just need to give the rest of the week a theme.

Laura, these were from Aldo; I bought them last Autumn. I do love them! I bought half a size up, and put lambswool liners in them....very toasty! If I see anything similar I'll post..

I LOVE this idea, Lynne. I also have a fear of "locking" myself in. Which is actually very counter my personality , I adore lists and plans. But I can't do it with my clothes...so this is a wonderful option.

Thimblelina, how fantastic. I am also going to steal it. Thank you !

thimblelina, I'll shamelessly steal your menu planning ideas as that is one area that is seriously draining my energy.

Lynne, that's great I think - whatever lessons we learn are good for the overall progress. I agree with Kari that your approach is fab small suitcase exercise.
I personally tend to stick with what I plan to wear and only the weather or some sudden inspiration can change that. This is partially because in my weeks I try to pull out some stuff to build the look around which would maybe be completely overlooked if I did not have my themes. Such approach helps me to spot potential future orphans, like today. I was surprised how few items I actually consistently went for and some that I thought were obvious choices simply did not work.

Here's preview of my week in the form of 'before' and 'after'

That seems like a great idea to me because I feel the same way! (Our family follows a menu in this sort of way: Monday I plan a dish around beans because they are a great cheap protein, Wednesday I make a dish that is based around rice like curry or stir fry, Thursday nite is pasta nite, Friday fish, etc. I can cook something elaborate or simple depending on how I feel, or be spontaneous with something from the garden or the farmers mkt, but I find I am always more creative when I start from a place that has limited and directed my choices.) So this looks appealing to me. And all your clothes will be sure to get some wear time in this sort of rotation. Good work! L

Lynne, I love that picture of you and your family - looks like a great day!

I'm the same way with planning outfits in advance, even in settings where I am on vacation and know I only have a set number out items to work with. I'd rather have a small capsule to mix and match from and wear what I feel like (or what the weather dictates) on a certain day. I don't think that there is anything wrong with that - but practicing this technique with a small capsule as you're doing now is helpful training for when you're restricted to clothing that fits in one small suitcase!

...not including shoes, accessories or outerwear.

I learned last week that planning doesn't completely work for me. I wake up and have a yen, or not, to wear a particular item or look. So this week I've chosen 10 items to work with, and I'll mix them as I go along. They are 2 pairs of jeans, 2 jackets, 4 tops, 1 cardi, and 1 dress.

This way, my plan is more of an outline than a draft :). Lets see how I fare...

bonus pic from a family walk in the forrest today. The sun was out, the buds are blooming, and the birds have all returned. Life is good :).
