Great outfit planning. I really like the print of the shell.
For me, the skirt works as conservative and slightly dressy (not corporate, but polished and appropriate) and does not bring "jeans" to mind, due to the color, texture and conservative simple style. I often think that's a particularly good way to mix navy with black because of the textural difference in the denim-y material.

More thumbs up for your clever and respectful switcheroo.

How fun is it to see you in boyfriend jeans, Lyn67. WOW. I don't think I've ever seen you in jeans - let alone BF jeans. You look fabulous. And go on. Be a devil and try the semi-tuck with a belt.

Suz and Aubergine, thanks for enabling black with navy.

Aubergine Great observation, and I was totally aware of this thing, but did want to bookend somehow the navy shoes in my outfit. The skirt is a very dark and fine greyish/blackish ink, denim like fabric, but has a completely classic cut see detailes (wide embelished waistband, zip and vent to back) in picties added. The print on the shell is a favourite for me, too-there is available blocked on front of a black tube skirt, too-so that piece may land in my wardrobe, too- soon(for wearing as separates, only).

I think the top half looks great with both the pants and the skirt and really like the pattern on the shirt!

I'm always bad at judging the "appropriate" things for settings like funerals, but I think the skirt version does a nice job of looking sober and formal without coming on too strong and I like the mixed neutrals. The only thing I wonder about is whether the skirt fabric might read as a little casual, just because it seems so denim-like. But that's something that's hard to tell in pictures.

Lyn, so nice to see you post. I think you performed an absolutely genius change up. Amazing what difference white pants vs. a dark skirt can make in an outfit's mood and overall impression. In #1 you look crisp, classic, summery, and fresh. In #2, you look serious, sober, thoughtful, and more conservative. I think this fulfills your objective brilliantly and I see no problem with mixing the neutrals. In my environment, at least, no one would bat an eyelash.

I haven't posted in a while, and it's getting so hard to get back to tracking my outfits here, so here is a quick WIW (today) for:

1-2. Work. White ankle BFjeans(2 yrs old) rolled up, black and white gingham like(but it's not a true gingham!) patterned sleeveless shell(new), and a 5-6 yrs.old, classic cut and textured black blazer, coral bag, and navy 1,5inch leather wedges. I do have a newer moto style black blazer form last fall, but I didn't want to look too fashionably for the next event on the same day, which was

3-5 a funeral, with no opportunity to get home in between. (I only changed my pants to a classic cut pencil skirt (but it's a textured, ink navy denim like fabric+bare legs) and my bag to a dressy clutch(black crock patent). Pictie nr 5 will show you perhaps the subtle color differences between the blacks and navies. I purposefully didn't want to be all black, and/or overly dressy(I didn't choose black skirt suit and pumps for the same reason)- as it's NOT for a close relative (and it's still summer, after all) but curious what are your feelings about my choices here.

Do you think I was right (or wrong?) with using black and navy together for such an occasion? Honest opinions(and any other comments) very much appreciated.

Thanks for your time:-)
