eh eh you are a bit hypercritical, I would have buy it, but you did well. I'm much more emotional and if you don't love 100% an item it's not worth it!

UF - no wisdom or suggestions here, but some empathy on the problem of clothes being too big around the bust area - something I face frequently
:-)

Sterling, isn't that right! I thought it was "my size," which is why I tried it on and analyzed. But may be too true curvy shaped even in a smaller size.
I was having a big of fun analyzing because online coat-shopping is expensive/bulky to deal with "maybe's" and I've been trying to spot the design elements that are more likely to work/not work.
I'm not in serious coat-shopping mode, but would pick one up IF it happened to be serendipitously great, not-black color and style. I'm keeping my good black wool coat as it still works and is good for dresses and dressy winter events.

I agree with other posters, it appears too big. But I want to encourage you not to settle just because something is on sale. I personally have had many items fall out of favor after the sale goggles have worn off. Then I am always so mad at myself. I am trying to avoid that in the future.

This looks too big, UF. You made the right choice.

I just found this Anne Klein cashmere blend at Macy's, almost like the one you have found. I'm putting it on my Christmas list for DH, only in the sapphire color. Funny, I had found one at TJMaxx also, and am returning that for this one.

Agreeing that you were right to leave this coat. It looks too big, in the top especially. I'd have the same problem with a fitted coat and nearly always have it with dresses.

I understand. I all too frequently have the problem of long coats being too wide across the back in the top by the time they fit my hips. In something like a blouse, altering the sides a little bit is not such an ordeal, but it's just not feasible for something like a coat. I think this just isn't the right fit for you. Bummer!

Thanks!
This was one of those random TJMaxx items- the only one in the store. So no way to check size.
I am glad to get thd feedback. Coats are so hard, to look sharp but allow layering, or be fitted for specific outfits only. Angie has posted on this. So it really takes just the right cut for the person, to be roomy but not sloppy.

I agree it's too big with what you're wearing under it. Is a fleece vest as much as you would wear under it? What about a bulky sweater?

Honesty UF, I think it looks too big. The puckering in the front as well as across the back.... although it does fit well through the hips, for sure. I wonder if a totally different cut of coat would work better on you?

I'm laughing a bit, because in the next day or two I'm going to post about a coat that I have the exact opposite problem with. Very similar cut of coat, but in order for me to get the width I need across my shoulders, they are too roomy in the hips. With mine, I think I may be able to deal with it by moving buttons. But really... a cocoon coat is my answer. Yet there are other reasons to want a classic shaped coat like this.

So I sympathize...

Perhaps a lot of photos for something I didn't buy, but I'd be interested in
"coat analysis," because I felt I should almost buy it!

So, I'm dissecting it so as to see what I might be looking for if something else came along especially if it's actually a HEWI to get all the boxes ticked.

Anne Klein Coat coat at TJMaxx. Already, the sales goggle eyes were burning because it's a very nice classic coat.
Pro's:
--Camel (sort of--see cons). A color that is JFE and don't have to match grays
.--Shaped but with hip room. I really like the slight waist shaping
--Vertical side pockets--very ergonomic. Hate coats with patch pockets.
--Vent in back (see cons)
--cashmere-wool blend
Here are the problems I think :
--It looks and feels too big in the bust. That's my biggest issue, that it is noticeable that it's cut for more bustage. There's the problem for me, because when coats have enough hip room, they're often tight through the chest, especially with layering. I think the seaming is what kills it, because it creates curves, whereas with no seaming, it might have just looked boxy. So it's kind of hourglass-y in that regard, instead of pear-ish.
--Camel is a darker warm camel, not a cool camel, so JFE but not a true "face color" and not my favorite camel. But on sale, and for wearing with tops in burgundy, and colorful scarves, I'd get over that.
--Collar--Fabber eyes please. I like the collar style per se, but it takes up a lot of the shoulder line, and may also be too ? roomy for my neck and tiny head! What say you?
--Back vent--I only noticed how deep the vent when I used the 3 -way mirror. This likely makes it pear-hip friendly but might be, ah, breezy! More so with a dress than with pants. This would not be a deal-breaker as is not for arctic wear.

BTW--I put on a fleece vest to add some layer and it has a collar that is filling in the neckline, so not showing the potential large collar issue as well.

So--what do you think? Am I hypercritical, or on track? If it were a size smaller, I wonder if it would fix the problems but still fit elsewhere? Or this seaming construction is problematic regardless. Or should I run back and get it!
