Thanks everyone for the advice.
The Cat: some good suggestions; in fact you've inspired me to wear my slim tan chinos with my olive bomber today :). Also a sweater dress would be good... I'll have to look out for one
Kkards: thanks for the tips :)
Torontogirl: Nice formula- classy and streamlined.
Jenni: thanks for the warm welcome. We are practically neighbors :). Also have you checked out the NZ brand Augustine International? Amazing. http://www.augustine.co.nz

Hi Jussie welcome from a Kiwi! I've been here almost a year and can't tell you how helpful it's been. I still like my long over lean formula but it is tweaked in many small ways with the forum's help. Thank you for putting great info in your profile. It helps a lot. I loved Melbourne when I visited twice in 2015 ( first visit ever then twice in one year!). I smiled when I saw 20s and 70s as your fave eras- me too!

I, too, live in a 4 seasons climate and will admit that it is challenging and that you need more clothes and footwear than others. On the other hand, I actually enjoy the different seasons, and I also look forward to wearing different kinds of clothes and footwear.

A few suggestions:
- Consider wearing trousers or chinos instead of jeans
- In spring and summer, try a printed skirt like the one Style Fan showed in a recent post: https://youlookfab.com/welookf.....ction-2018
- In fall and winter, consider wearing a sweater dress, perhaps with tall boots. See Inge's recent blog post: https://youlookfab.com/2018/01.....ter-dress/
- As tops, try quality knitwear with short or long sleeves. Thin crew neck or V-neck pullovers are versatile items year round. They can be worn alone or layered (under or over other items).
- As a topper, try a comfortable blazer or a bomber jacket
- Scarves are great for added colour, interest and variety. In the cooler months they help keeping you warm, and in the warmer months, they can be used as superlight toppers in the simple, stylish way recently shown by Brooklyn: https://youlookfab.com/welookf.....st-1878652. By the way, silk scarves can be used year round-- they are surprisingly pleasant to wear whether it's cold or hot

What a great thread! I love uniform dressing. My general formula (stay at home/ work at home mom) is dark wash skinnies, a fitting or just-fluid sweater (usually fine knit) in a subtle color, stud earrings and weather appropriate flats. In hot weather I switch out to a cotton sundress or shorts and a fluid t-shirt; in the coldest of winter, I throw fashion out the window and wear leggings and a hoodie

Hi The Cat,
Thanks so much for the tip- I will put in some info now and hopefully that helps :).
In terms of lifestyle, for me I have to kind of have all bases covered! Workwear/casual mum/some dressier outfits.
One thing I reeeeally struggle with is the fact that we have a very distinct four season climate which nescessitates a fairly big range of outfit formulas....

Welcome to the forum! You may find lots of inspirational ideas in Angie's Ensembles: https://youlookfab.com/ensembles/
and other fabbers' WIWs here on the forum.

If you give us a little more info about yourself--i.e. about your work and interests, where in the world you live, your style preferences and your personal colours--it will be easier to give you more specific advice. Many here have choosen to put some info into their profile--perhaps you could do the same? And when you've been a Member for a few days and written a few comments to others' blog posts, you'll become an Active Member and be allowed to post photos, which may also be helpful.

My outfit formula for summer is pattern over plain OR plain over pattern. Because it is hard to wear more than 2 items in the summer heat. Use shoes, jewellery and bag to add texture and shine.

Thanks Mainelady for your response. You know it's funny, turtlenecks are not commonly worn around my area, however I do love the look of Angie's ensembles that contain turtlenecks... maybe I could experiment with one sometime. I suspect if I could find a flattering turtleneck it would be marvelously useful.
And the column of colour is a fantastic outfit formula of sorts , I'll add it to my list.

Hi Jussie. Welcome! Your outfits sound similar to some I might wear. In the winters need to add layers, for warmth. When doing so I often start with a solid color base layer (i.e. navy pants and navy turtleneck or long sleeved top). I am short and I like to think I look taller when I have one long stretch of color.
I like my base layer to be slim fitting to avoid having too much bulk or limited movement when fully dressed. Once I have my base layer I add a sweater, jacket or vest, jewelry and often a scarf. Having a tonal base layer allows me to go minimal, or maximal with my outfit. Due to changing temperatures in buildings and outside I may start the day in a maximal outfit and end up with the minimal version before I go home.

Hi everyone I'm quite new here but I'm going to break the ice and ask for some ideas: what are some great outfit formulas? For example, I often wear jeans, buttoned up chambray shirt under an open long cardi with bright flats and some layered necklaces... but I need some more ideas .
Casual or work outfit ideas would be helpful. Thanks in advance!
