I was at the same wedding as Knitting Gene. It was such a charming venue, but definitely cold, plus there were some treks along muddy pathways.

I wore wide leg charcoal grey velvet pants and (a favorite current piece of mine) an Anthropologie silver camisole. I topped this with a cropped, lightweight, short sleeved sparkly taupe cardigan, which honestly made the outfit feel more mother-of-the-bride-y than I would have liked, but it was necessary for extra warmth. I took it off for dancing.

For the outdoors parts of the evening, I wore my cream colored asymmetrical drape-y wool coat from Garnet Hill, and my workhorse blush scarf with a pompom fringe. I have dressier coats that might have worked better with my dressy outfit, but this one felt perfect for the rustic setting, plus it was warm, and I was happy.

Normally I’d wear velvet flats with these pants but because of the outdoorsy venue, the mud, and the possibility of rain, I decided to forego those and instead I pulled out a pair of basic black booties that I’ve held onto for decades because they are, just occasionally, very useful. This was just one of those occasions.

If you’re going to be outdoors and don’t have footwear like that on hand, you could look for a pair of used shoes or boots that you don’t have to worry about wrecking. This suggestion comes by way of my goddaughter/Knitting Gene’s daughter, and I thought it was brilliant. She suggested Buffalo Exchange and there’s also always Goodwill. I definitely would have done that if I hadn’t had my trusty old booties.

I look forward to seeing what you pull together. Have fun!

Nightmare wardrobe challenge! You might consider those little adhesive heating pads to put inside your shoes. I always get cold feet while sitting still during the talking/ceremony. You can get them at outdoor, farming or hunting supply stores.

I think that since the attire is casual, you are in luck. I suggest slacks, a dressy blouse, sweater, or topper. Socks with your shoes, or a pair of sassy boots. If wearing a dress, wear tall boots and add a great jacket, or large shawl, to drape around you. With lots of people, there will be body heat in the tent, too. I think your feet might need the most attention, due to the cold coming up from the ground.

I have always dreamed of attending events in winter because we never had a season like this in our country. I have always been dreamy of how I would look in a coat and pants to match the weather.

Since you are attending a wedding, I suggest you to wear white pants, not the jeans type, but something more fashionable. Then, pair them with a white coat too. I guess a coat might not be a gamechanger, but it's the most comfortable wear in winter!

I went to a wedding very much like this a year or so ago, and wore a midi length long sleeved sheath dress plus a full slip, hosiery, and knee-height boots. I wore a cropped leather jacket over it and was warm enough for the most part, but a scarf/wrap would have come in handy. Good excuse to warm up with some dancing though!

I would be tempted to dress like the men with dressy dark jeans and a wool blazer, adding a dressy scarf. Maybe velvet or metallic.

I just officiated a wedding of dear friends this weekend. It was held at the camp where they met as counselors; the ceremony itself and the dancing were held in a large building with just two walls and semi open roof. High temps were low 50’s. So I feel you but I did fine.

I wore heavier black dress pants, a silk knit top and a gorgeous EF pine green velvet jacket. It’s available now. Expensive but I found a sale. The jacket is lined with silk so it really was warm. I took it off during dancing. I also, like many of the women there, wore water proof heavy soles boots.

You’ll find your outfit but I wanted to pass along encouragement!

I would wear a pants suit with a sparkly top, or a dress with sleeves (or plus a jacket) and hose to keep warm. It may be a good excuse to spend lots of time on the dance floor!

Wow, a real challenge! A coat (neutral or color) boots and a hat? Plus a pashmina over your shoulders around the neck, or just flowing from your elbows for a more festive and feminine touch? Will you have to take out coats or enough to concentrate on the outerlayers?

Hello!
This weekend, I am attending a wedding. This wedding, as I am finding out, is casual - most of the men are wearing dress jeans and sport coats. The challenge I'm having is that this wedding is taking place outdoors in a tent - and the temperature is going to be in the low 40s. I am told there will be heaters in the tent, but I'm not expecting those to provide much relief. What on Earth do I wear? I'll take any recommendations! Thanks!
