Isabel I love that statement. I was going to wimp out of my walk today but was so inspired by that I got out there!
Windchime thanks for the encouragement and the love for my Ray Bans.

You’re smart to focus on owning the right things to motivate getting out in really cold weather and walking. It’s not easy! It’s great that you found a coat that goes the distance without being overly bulky. Your berry colored accessories look terrific on you, and so do the sunglasses.

Angie - Thanks for the thumbs up.
Suntiger - thanks for the coat love. It is burr but I am charging forward!
Style Fan - thanks and yes the grippers are amazing. I looked at the boots with built in grips. I think they would be very useful.
RunCarla - you have a great collection. We do have lots of snow and ice and yes to the snowpants. I have a few pairs. I don't think winter walking in the extreme temps would be possible without them.
Suz - I agree finding the right combination is key. Pockets and the upper pocket must be insulated otherwise the phone battery is dead within 15 minutes. This coat has the omniheat silver lining in the chest pocket.

Glory, you look wonderful! Those ice grippers look like a fantastic find. Trust Lee Valley, right? They often come through with the coolest stuff.

I love your coordinating hats, which must also look great with the pink coat. The new walking coat looks terrific. I can 100% agree with your requirements for a decent winter walking coat. Must be knee length (shorter, and your legs freeze, longer and it can be too difficult to walk); must have hood, must adapt a bit to changing temperatures (and you may need multiples for different weather); must have a hood. Hand covers an excellent bonus. I also need good pockets, preferably with an upper pocket so I can put my phone in there.

Ledonna, have you tried Mountain Hardware? So far they are the most hips friendly brand I have found for fleece pants. I also bought ski pants from Burton. I tried a bunch of brands at Zappos for the free returns and then bought similar pieces at 6pm, where clothing from Zappos gets discounted. If you end up with other suggestions I would love to hear them, I keep a list of brands to try.

Looks great! Much love for Lee Valley! You’ve got more snow than we have, but similar temps (was -6degC, but a cold wind off Lake Ontario had it feeling like -10) today and I wore everything you see in Finds during a 2.5 hour walk. The wool lined leather boots I got in November are THE BEST!

There is a coat similar to your Columbia on the way to me, and I expect to wear it when we get our colder and snowier weather February through March.

DH wears long johns under his jeans, but I’m okay without. I put activated charcoal in my mitts (I have Raynaud’s) and it makes a huge difference. When it gets really cold I have a pair of snow pants for extra protection. Do you wear snow pants?

It is important to have the right gear. Ice grippers make a huge difference in the winter. I have boots that have grips built in them that I can use. They flip over. They are not as grippy as the ice grippers.

Your new gear looks perfect for cold weather. Enjoy!

Rachy yes to the love for an ankle coat. In my search this year I did purchase an ankle length from Mondetta but I'm short!! I like to say 5'4" but its really 5'3.5" and that half inch makes a difference when the models are a gazzlion feet high. It was lovely but I was tripping. My next post will show the bottoms I purchased for my outdoor adventures!

La Ped - it is so true. My only regret - why didn't I invest in myself sooner?

Thanks Ledonna! the grippers are total game changers. You can go anywhere. On an especially icy day I was whizzing past all the people with nary a care! hahaha.

My main goal this winter was to embrace winter walking. Not always easy in this climate and not always easy to be motivated.
I did buy a few new items to help.
First a new winter coat for extreme weather. I ended up buying a Columbia Omniheat called Lay D Down. Its an excellent jacket for me. It comes to the knee, has an excellent hood, hand covers, and the omniheat makes is fairly light. So far I have only been able to wear it a few times. I find that anything about about -8 c and it is too warm (when moving). I have used it to -20 c so far and it was solid.
For the above -8 c I use my old and trusted pink verbio. It is also knee length. Perfect until about + 5 c.
I also traded in some old ice grippers for these ones pictured. They have a full bottom of spikes without coils so are more comfortable for longer walks. They velcro over your winter boot rather than pulling a spring style rubber band. I have had to use these quite a few times and have been super happy. I purchased them from a company called Lee Valley.
