I only store seasonal outerwear (and winter boots) out of sight, and that is because I have a basement closet the same size as the upstairs closet and it perfectly fits all the family seasonal outerwear and accessories. Otherwise, everything is out all the time.

I do have a chest of drawers as well as half a walk in closet. The walk in closet isn’t full on either my side or DH’s side - so we can see all our clothes.

FWIW, I hang all pants, including jeans, the ‘long way’ from the bottoms using hangers that clamp the hems. I use these same hangers for skirts, clamping the waist. T-shirts, sweaters, underwear etc, shorts, gym kit in the chest of drawers.

Bridgie, so good to hear from you here! I have been thinking of you.

Generally, I store items the same way whether they are in or out of season. So I keep a lot of my items (including pants) on hangers, but fold my jeans. Haven't try to roll them, but perhaps it is worth trying.

Both. Hanging items get moved into a basement closet, still hanging. Folded items go in storage containers, still folded. It makes switching out seasonally go quicker, if you have the corresponding storage space.

Both for me . Blazers , dressier pants , blouses - remain hung up but in a diff closet . Other items including footwear go in big Rubbermaid totes and are stacked up to the ceiling by my exasperated husband . Fun job he has

For me it has depended on how much gaming space. I hang a LOT of my clothes, including things other people usually fold, and so if I can keep them on the same hanger it’s easier to swap in & out. I especially like to keep hanging items that are mid- weight , “ shoulder season” that I often move out in high summer or deep winter if I want more breathing space but may run and get when weather is fickle. I keep most of my pants hanging off- season except fleece and exercise types. When I had more “ long” hanging space I used a lot of clamp hangers to avoid creasing.
Convenience is important to me- I have to put some things on a higher shelf so try to target folding stuff like deep winter that I’ll likely get out all at once.

I actually have always hung my pants, on those hangers that allow you to have multiple pairs. That is because I had room in my second closet to do so. But I've never liked the crease that they come out with after months of being stored that way. I think I might try rolling them when I change over next season. Thanks for the good idea!

My preference would be to store things the same way whether they were in or out of season. Reality has been that all but a very few things have been folded in suitcases in the cellar. Even more recent reality is that I have a whole “new” closet up here, now that my son has taken his things to college, woot woot!

Sally, thanks for your advice. Nothing wrong with it. I always have suitcases packed with some clothes. That is too much wasted space if not used.

…It’s true I don’t wear real trousers much. Trousers that are part of a suit, I hang. My jeans and so forth, I roll actually; but they’re in drawers or storage bins… avoids horizontal creases.

rachy, thank you. So, you would fold pants/jeans? Maybe you don’t wear pants so much.
Ok, I seem to have another problem. I started to start another thread for it, but have decided to post it here.
I am using my phone for the first time here on ylf because my computer is ILL. I may need a new one. Anyway I see that the block where I rate the replies to responders to my original post shows are visible for anyone to see. Or, it is on mine. It shows up on Irinas. On Suz’ s and Rachy’s the block shows up but is blank because I did not check a block on theirs after I saw it was visible to all, or at least it looks that way on mine. Is it visible to you other responders?
