I told my mom about the forum and that you sent your prayers and loving thoughts, and she was very touched. </p> <p>She is actually doing better and better, now most of the constant wheezing is gone, her voice is back to normal (the tube they had to put to her lungs in ICU had damaged her vocal cords) and she can walk small distances, slowly, without a walker. She was very depressed about her voice and the walker because she is proud, I would be too. It suddenly made her feel so old. So to have her voice back is very uplifting. I am washing and handwashing all of her nicer clothes, that might have accumulated some dust, so that she can soon wear them again. </p> <p>Earlier when she was still in hospital, my brother and I cleaned her house for dust. I was sorting through a pile of knitting supplies in the tv room when underneath I uncover... my green ankle boots... moment of Twilight Zone... What are my boots doing there, under her knits? And then I realize they are not mine, but hers...! She had bought the very same pair, in the very same color! (see pick below). </p> <p>Then later when she came home, she gave me another pair from the same company, new, because she won't be able to wear heels at least for a little while.<br /> - But, Mom, what about later, when you feel better? You might want to wear them?<br /> - Oh, by the time I can walk in heels again they'll be last season's style!<br /> Was her reply. </p> <p>How cool is that? I lost my father to lung cancer, then two years later I nursed my mother whilst she died from it. Both cases were from smoking. I quit straight after my mother died. I don't want my family to go through that for me. I agree with you about cigarettes. They are a drug to which people easily become addicted, then slowly die. They should be outlawed worldwide.
