Another girl scout here!

My bag currently contains:-

Purse (wallet) - contains cash, credit cards, some loyalty cards, and receipts.

Small make up bag containing contact lens case, lip balm, lip gloss, nail file, face blotter things.

Keys - house and car.

Tissues

Pen

Phone and stylus for phone (stupid touch screen plus nails mean too many typos otherwise!)

Sunglasses

Reading glasses

Tape measure (very handy)

Reusable shopping bag

Small hand mirror

Painkillers

Feminine hygiene stuff

Comb

Small notebook

Diary/organiser - a slim one - I do use the organiser on my phone, but if I'm using my phone to make an appointment, it's not that easy to check my availability on my phone (if you see what I mean!).

right now I have:
wallet
phone
keys
lip balm
(big) sunglasses in case
ipad
umbrella (sometimes I take this out if it's for sure not going to rain)
lunch (in tupperwares inside an insulated fabric bag)
tiny water bottle (the kind they give you on airplanes)
(empty tissue pack, need to replenish this)
some random pieces of paper/receipts
pen
scarf

The lunch bag is the culprit, it means I have to use a big purse. But I figure it's important to have yummy, healthy, non-overpriced things to eat at work.

And I totally agree, my Longchamps bag is so light and holds so much!

I use a small but efficient clutch/wallet combo for when it's just me. It has:
- Floss and floss picks
- Bus tickets
- Cash
- Cards - credit, debit, ID, red cross, costco
- Punch card for my local coffee shop :)
- Lip gloss
- Burt's Bees chap stick
- Emergency tea bags (you never know)
- Keys and cell phone, one or the other fits in the front pouch of the clutch.
- Photo of my wee one :)
- Emergency origami pegasus, folded by my husband as a good luck charm.
- Wedding ring, next to the aforementioned pegasus; I need to get it cleaned.
- Coin purse
- Gum

Anything else I need I throw in my crossbody bag and pretend it's baby gear... that's usually my Kleen Kanteen water bottle, hand lotion, etc. I'm pretty minimalist in terms of my own self-care, honestly.

Most of the time when I am leaving the house I am going to class and planning to be out all day, sometimes working in the library for the afternoon. So I usually carry a big canvas bag or a book bag, which normally has:

- Spanish dictionary and/or grammar book
- notebook, pens, homework
- wallet
- phone
- sweater and scarf
- umbrella
- folding shopping tote
- zippered pouch with miscellaneous personal supplies (lotion, hair ties, aspirin, lip balm, mirror, etc.)
- prescription sunglasses
- handful of ginger candy to counteract motion sickness
- snacks and bottle of water
- old receipts, expired bus tickets, miscellaneous bits of paper
- sometimes a camera
- sometimes a netbook (with mouse and power cord) or ipad
- sometimes my gigantic laptop (with mouse and power cord)

If I go shopping while I'm out I usually stuff everything into my bag unless it is too big, which is one advantage of having a huge bag. But I do tend to stash things that I don't really need into my bag because there is so much room, and then I wonder why it feels so heavy!

switched to a cross body with so much hardware, it causes me to list. carry prescription sunnies, wallet that needs a clean out. ipad that has replaced my notebook computer for day to day, lipgloss, pens, ipad stylus, keys, phone. switching to a smaller bag has decreased the probability that i would stuff it with mtg papers.

Purse (wallet) with cards and cash
Hand sanitizer
Zip pouch with
Mini glass nail file
Floss stick

ETA I forget to add my phone to the list and keys which are very light just my house and car key and a torch key fob x

I try to keep my bag minimal because of the weight as you say, and that's why I don't like most 'statement bags' - too bulky and heavy without anything even being in them. When going to events sometimes I'll go sans bag at all - just put my essential cards and cash in my pocket and my phone in the other.

Normal bag has:
wallet - checkbook size so a larger one, not a foldover smaller size
cellphone
zip cosmetics-type bag - that has a powder compact and brush, a pill holder with some tylenol etc., a lip balm, a stick sunscreen, and a pack of travel tissues
sunglasses if it's sunny and I'm wearing my contacts
...and that's it, basically.

The zip bag makes it easy to switch purses. A bigger bag/tote would have the above along with a notebook and/or paperwork and/or laptop.

Depends on where and when.

For a very quick run to the shops, I'll often just pick up my wallet, keys and scrunched-up shopping tote.

For a general day at work or out-and-about:
- keys
- folded/scrunched tote
- phone
- bottle of water (heavy, because glass; yet to succeed at locating all-metal alternative)
- snack or lunch (not always)
- notebook
- two pens
- sunglasses
- card case (for work, but there's always a small emergency stash in my wallet too)
- hair clip or elastic bands
- sunscreen
- small tube of hand cream (for AC offices)
- folding umbrella
- thin little rain poncho (sometimes, in season)
In a small cosmetics pouch:
- lipsticks (two, one for evening transition)
- lipbrush
- eyeliner pencil (kohl, actually)
- mascara
- lip balm
- mints or some other hard candy (to combat hypoglycaemia)
- migraine meds
- emergency feminine supplies
- small double mirror (one side with magnification)
(used to carry compact for the longest time to 'blot', but lately my skin's been dry enough not to need it)

For travelling, add to that:
- book and/or iPod
- camera (if vacation or new destination for work)
- wool-silk blend stole (for arctic air travel)
- phone charger
- camera battery charger
- iPod charger (depends on length of travel)
Add a second clear bag of toiletries with
- toothbrush and toothpaste
- tiny vial of perfume
- face mist (for airplanes)
- facial moisturiser of the moment
- foot cream
- deo (usually anti-perspirant)
- pack of 'focus' and 'sleep' sniff boxes
- passport case
- spare change of clothes

For evenings out (work or personal), I switch to a smaller bag usually:
- keys
- wallet (or just a little cash, a credit card, and a few business cards)
- phone
- perfume
- lipstick

I carry a LOT of stuff. Like the girl scouts my motto is "be prepared"!
I carry keys, hand lotion, touch up makeup kit including dental floss and toothpaste (I'm ready for anything). nail trimmers, sunglasses, cell phone(droidx) portable 2 terabyte harddrive and blutooth keyboard (don't ask cause you do not want to know) tablet pc (I'll let you guess.. and no it is not an ipad). It all adds up to a pretty heavy little load..... "put the load right on me"...oh no...I hear Bob Dylan or the Band right now.l

I tend to swap bags often so try to keep pared down to make that faster.

Hobo wallet - big enough that I can carry like a mini clutch. It's got too much in it typucally.
Collapsible hair brush from sephora
lipstick - or a couple if I forget to take out
change purse for parking meters - i try to leave in car but forget
phone
ipod - sometimes
pen

Ha! As of right now, about 50% less stuff than a few days ago.

I did a major overhaul of my handbag contents. Now I'm down to:

- wallet, which is much lighter and thinner than before. I took out less frequently used credit cards and got rid of ALL of my reward cards, which was quite a bundle! I downloaded an app called Cardstar that keeps all my rewards card info on my iphone (everything from airlines to Panera to Anthro).
- keys, and I thinned out some that are not frequently used, that I can keep in my car.
- business card case
- change purse
- eyeglass case
- phone
- And a lightweight pouch that holds a comb, lipstick, aspirin, gum, compact, a couple of safety pins and a couple of pieces of fashion tape, blotting tissues, feminine products, dental pics, and nail file

If my bag is big enough, I will carry my iPad in it, but I promise I'll follow doctors orders and carry it by hand. I also have taken to the habit of carrying a water bottle with me a lot, but I'll be careful with that as well.

Probably still too much... but thanks to my iPhone I've pared down as I no longer need to carry a separate mp3 player.

Full contents are:
Wallet (contains credit cards, ID, & cash)
Small zippered pouch that contains lipstick, lip gloss, and nail clippers
Travel-sized container of hand sanitizer
Travel-sized container of hand lotion
Glasses cleaning cloth
iPhone
Headphones
Pen
Breath mints
Mini-umbrella (needed most of the year, but it's incredibly compact.)
Keys
At least one or two sanitary supplies - even if I don't need them, I've sometimes been able to rescue friends who were in need.
Sunglasses - only occasionally in summer
Mini notebook to jot down notes/shopping lists - my favorites are by Mudlark.

Umbrella
Wallet
Phone
A seperate card holder for all those horrible store discount cards.
Small hair brush
Small note book to log my debit card purchases (and pen)

Phone
Lip Balm - Burt's Bees Pomegranate
Wallet
Comb
Keys
Hand sanitizer - Whole Foods 360 brand peppermint spray
Lipstick-of-the-day (yes, I know - kind of silly, but I like to wear different shades of lipstick on diferent days)
Compact - Jane Iredale Pure Pressed Powder
Powder Brush - Jane Iredale "Handi" brush in it's plastic case
Sample-size of favourite perfume of the day - right now it's Donna Karan Cashmere Mist Liquid Nude
Pen - very picky here - has to be 0.5 or thinner - right now it's Pentel Arts Hybrid Technica 0.5 mm Pen, Black Ink
A few capsules of Enzymedica "Gluten-Ease" digestive enzyme capsules - I have a significant gluten sensitivity, and these help when eating out.
Small Notebook - currently a Moleskine Ruled Volant Notebook in red (extra small)
sunglasses
Various receipts, papers and assorted other 'stuff' that really doesn't need to be in there, but that I'm terrible at cleaning out.

*at times, I'll throw my Kindle in there, but this depends if I'm going somewhere where I think I might want my 'book' or will be waiting - example: dentist, hair salon, tire place etc. I don't carry a Kindle with me every day, just when I want it with me...but it fits just fine in my handbag. I mean, I can get the Kindle in and out, but this *isn't* to say that with said Kindle in handbag that I can access anything else in there - no, this isn't the case...:)

Pretty much all of my purses are small, and I don't carry much in them. Phone, keys, wallet, small tube of hand lotion, small makeup bag (lip gloss, mascara), small mint tin. Sometimes sunglasses. That's it

As indicated by a recent thread, its really not a good idea to stuff your handbag to the gills(as we all often do!). Not to mention that lot of handbags are very heavy even empty-take Florentina Vachetta from D & B-gorgeous bag, so stylish and so darn heavy, that even empty feels like its loaded with bricks.
Personally, I recently had to reevalute what I carry in my bags as well as start getting lighter handbags because I was having back pains and extra handbag weight wasn't helping. So what do have in my bags now?
wallet(which is actually a leather skinny from Coach)
phone
small makeup bag(only eyedrops, compact, lipstick and nail file in it)
small notebook that I use for notes and app(yes I can mark app on my phone but I prefer writing it down in the notebook, its about 2x4 size)
Kindle(I have kindle touch which is extremely light and weighs next to nothing)
Umbrella(a necessity where I live since it rains at the drop of a hat)
And during the week I also carry my lunch and bottle of wated. I guess this is my minimum.
As far as the lightest bag I have encountered, its without a doubt Longchamps Le Pliage, as its made of nylon with leather handles. I use mine all the time. I just got leather Coach satchel that is also very light
