Tonight we had portabella mushrooms stuffed with spinach and feta cheese accompanied by bulghur wheat. I I like it even better than brown rice or pasta.
I am intrigued by all sorts of exotic meats and would definitely give kangoroo a try.

We have some great cooks here!
Tonight I made chicken enchiladas. The last time O made them they were *so* good, and this time they were just ok. I don't know what I did different.
I don't think that I could eat kangaroo, but there are lots of animals that I can't eat- buffalo, goat, rabbit, veal, most seafood....

Kim, I though the roomeat might raise a few eyebrows!. As Fi said, it is a lean red meat. It is not really mainstream in australia (though a staple for indigenous australians and for early settlers) and I am stilling getting used to the idea
It is hunted in the wild. There are heaps of kangaroos - it isn't endangered or anything!
Here is a bit more info

Kim - Kangaroo is a very lean red meat.

We met friends very briefly at a wine bar last night (at a favourite place of mine called Terriors) for a quick drink and some shared plates of food. The star was a plate of grilled squid with a aioli.

Tonight we had falafel and I made a potato salad with little new potatoes and a tomato salad drizzled with lemon olive oil. Kind of bits and pieces put together.

Hanna - Malayasian food is my favourite. There are some fantastic Malyasian restaurants in Wellington, NZ and if I get home this week I will definitely be indulging!

Anne- kangaroo? does it taste just like chicken? I guess I'm really uninformed but I had no idea you guys ate kangaroo down there. facinating! Do people hunt them in the wild, or are they raised on ranches for food like cattle? Hmm....the longer I think about it the more disturbed I am getting of the idea of you all eating kanga and little roo ;-(

Sat. morning here, but last night we had what my husband calls "prison food". There is no recipe for this delicacy but it involves onions and garlic, various spices, capsicum, tomatoes and sometimes corn. I serve it with rice and chopped avocado on top. I really like it! My poor, long-suffering husband doesn't but still gets to eat it about once a week!

Sat morning here too.

We arrived home from our holidays to discover our freezer had gone on the blink (while my inlaws were here) Consequently our fridge's freezer was jam packed so I tried to relieve the pressure.

We had spaghetti bolognaise (sauce from the freezer) and peas. The sauce was made with kangaroo, which I am trying to use more, as it is more environmentally friendly and healthier than beef. And we had a blackberry and apple tart and icecream from the freezer, which is untypical of me, as I don't usually buy this type of desert.

Sure Maya, Indonesian translates well into vegetarian cuisine. We often eat veggie Indo.

Our fridge is overflowing with veggies from the CSA box and eggs from our chickens, so I think it's going to be a chard and green garlic souffle tonight. With wine, of course, as always. I'm also going to make a salad of red cabbage, red onion, red pepper, cherry tomatoes and feta cheese in a thyme vinaigrette. We're not vegetarians, but we eat that way several times a week.

I'm debating between:
Chicken burgers with guacamole and an arugula-based side salad
or
Salmon done in a lovely healthy way (drizzled with white wine, capers, lemon juice, pepper and fresh dill, then wrapped in parchment paper and popped in the oven for 10 mins. If I go that route I'll steam some asparagus to go with it.

Hmmm, Corey just voted for guac burgers.

All you ladies are making me hungry! Angie, yum.

I have some leeks I have to make and a new CSA box I have to explore when I get home. I will probably get some chicken to have with my leeks. Also, it's Friday so a piece of carrot cake might be in order!

On the topic of food, I just got a rice cooker for the first time. The one I got is by Lotus Foods and comes with a steamer, too. (Big discount if you order 4 instead of 1.) It is all stainless steel, so no weird chemicals to leech into food. My mom got one, too, and between the two of us we have made a variety of things apart from white, brown and wild rice, including farro, lentils, even beans. Throw your veggies in the steamer towards the end, even cook seafood in it! I sound like an infomercial, but talk about something that can create a really easy meal or sides with sooo little work! I highly recommend it.

No idea what's for dinner yet. I like Vani's idea of brinner. Easy! BF and I just had a late lunch of sushi and miso soup.

I just came home from a barbecue where I had two beef burgers- I'm way too full now. I also made lemon meringue pie this evening for another barbecue which I'm going to tomorrow afternoon.

Angie, I hope you will make me Indonesian food if it can be made veg friendly!

I think we are having leftover homemade spiced veggie burgers. Not sure what's on the side. Probably a salad of sorts.

Yummy, Khris! Enjoy that bottle of child-free wine, Kim and you are making me hungry Louise.

We're having ikan boemboe bali, nasi phuti, atchar and steamed broccoli. That's Indonesian for hot spicy fish, sticky rice, sweet cold cucumber salad and broccoli. I made the food yesterday and we'll finish it off tonight. Selamat Makan!
