what kind of french to you like...fine, bistro, cafe? bistro zinc is an oldie but a goodie. avec is great as a "french tapas" place. le colonial does french/vietnamese.

old school cocktails in a speakeasy atmosphere are having a moment. violet hour, the office, curio.

jealous of the fun you will have. dad will have a good time in the bleachers at wrigley if there is a game.

For walking tour of the loop, don't miss Millenium Park and Navy Pier, running/walking/biking path along the Lake shore. Chicago is so beautiful - while the museums are FAB, don't forget to spend time outside if the weather permits. Wear comfortable shoes that won't make blisters. And have fun!

Also: note the interesting architecture. Try Lincoln Park and the zoo, Frank Lloyd Wright tour: http://www.gowright.org/

HAVE FUN!

Finding parking can be tough. When we drive into the city we try to park once and then take the train around town for the day. When we stayed in a hotel on Michigan ave we did a combo of lots of walking with short cab rides.

We like the Willis Tower sky deck for cool views of the city.

I have kids, so the Field Museum and the Museum of Science and Industry were favorites. They're fantastic, even for adults

So, I may be visiting Chicago with my Dad for a few days either this coming weekend (in two days!) or July 21st-22nd. Alas, he is pretty anti-shopping so I won't get much NAS admiring done if it's the latter date. This will be my first time visiting the city--what are the must-sees? I'd like a mix of touristy and non-touristy things. Also, recommendations for good French and/or Chinese restaurants? We'll rent a car, but is driving around the city practicable?
