Ooh, I love scents! I wear perfume almost every day.

In the 80’s as a tween I wore White Shoulders and Exclamation! (anyone remember that lol!)

The 90’s (high school) were all about Giorgio, Poison, Lauren, and Calvin Klein Escape. Heavy, heavy scents that I cannot wear anymore.

For a few years after that I wore Estee Lauder Pleasures which I loved and got lots of compliments on, but after awhile I just got tired of it.

About 6 years ago I fell in love with Love at First Glow by J.Lo but sadly it’s been discontinued. Since then I haven’t found a scent I really love. Right now I rotate between a few: Estee Lauder’s Bronze Goddess, J.Lo’s L.A. Glow, Marc Jacobs Daisy and Vera Wang Princess. I’m still looking for a signature scent!

I don't wear perfume often because I am just not a scent kind of girl. But when I do, it's Philosophy's Pure Grace. To me, the scent is very clean, very crisp and more like Ivory soap than perfume. I love it.

Jayne, I use Breathe bar soap by Lollia and I love it because it makes my shower smell nice.

Light perfumes, colognes, and body splashes/sprays seem to evaporate as soon as I put them on, so I never end up buying any of those. None of the Jo Malone perfumes work for me at all. I think it's because my skin is so dry. That's probably why I prefer heavier perfumes. They last at least a few hours on me.

I feel the odd one out as I don't wear perfume so much as body soaps. My current favorite is body shop's Moroccan oil series. It lasts all day and is so subtle! spicy and deep

I hardly ever wear perfume because it usually gives me a headache -- to the extent that I sometimes hold my nose while walking through the cosmetics section of a department store!. But I do have a few bottles around. I tend to like spicy, musky, or sweet fragrances more than citrus or florals. My parents both like spicy smelling stuff -- Mom used to wear Ciara and Dad still uses Old Spice aftershave. ;-)

My favorites are Tuscany Per Donna and Hypnotic Poison. On my wedding day I wore something with a name like "flowers" but it wasn't the Kenzo one -- it had pink square-ish lettering on the bottle. Something by Gaultier, maybe? It was just some sample that I got from a department store but it was nice for a summer occasion. I used to like Anais Anais but I got tired of it. When I was a teenager I really like Opium and Coty Wild Musk, but I got tired of them, too.

I like to change up my scent too and sometimes just forget altogether. I have a sampler from Sephora now to try a bunch out.
One of my favorites is Hanae Mori Butterfly and I had a summer perfume I loved, but can only remember it was light green and in a squarish bottle. ETA I had to find out and it was Alfred Sung Paradise which looks like it's discontinued because it's only sold on odd sites (and amazon) for cheap. I'm wondering if it will be the same.
I thought it was Issey Miyake, but either they changed the bottle or don't make it because I haven't found it lately. I prefer light scents with citrus, vanilla, maybe a little spice, but absolutely NO Patchouli. No offense as I know it's in a lot of high line fragrances, but I cannot stand it in any form.
My mother wears Estee Lauder White Linen so I stay away from that. I had a bottle of Chanel No5 that was stolen from my hotel room once and have not replaced it since, but remember loving it. Maybe it's time to revisit. I am going to start smelling Jo Malone based on Christieanne's suggestions, they sound like something I'd like.

I've only started wearing perfume everyday in the last couple of years and i now feel underdressed without it. For Spring/ Summer I wear CK one. My Dad picked up a bottle duty free for my mum years ago and I loved the smell she rarely wore it though. In the cooler weather i wear Versace red jeans, I was given a small bottle many years ago for christmas by a child i cared for. I must have weird skin because many perfumes smell awful on me. I adore Very Valentino on others, on me it smells like cat piddle!!! X

Such a fun thread! I love talking perfume too, even though I no longer wear one daily, or even on every occasion. (Migraines change your life, and then change it again every few years, or so it seems!)

And no, I don't have a single favourite. It depends on occasion and mood.

High-five, Christieanne! We have quite a few in common --- the Jo Malones are both favourites of mine, though I wear them the OTHER way around! Grapefruit for summer, Lime Basil & Mandarin in winter (because, well, those are winter herbs and fruit here in India, while grapefruits remind me of the Mediterranean possibly due to some buried childhood breakfast memory implanted at sea). AND my university years mostly smelt of alternately White Musk and (am I *mad* they discontinued this!) Vanilla Fields.

I have a weakness for vanilla and roses when my mood (or migraine) needs lifting, and at other times enjoy a little citrus and green (including the edge of sap in lily of the valley and violets), plus musky or sandalwood bases.

My first ever day perfume, gifted to me as a child, was Avon's Roses, Roses, in a green frog-shaped decanter --- still have it, and love it! The one I used up faster was Sweet Honesty, many times over. At school, I stole Dad's Brut! (I still like some men's perfumes a lot) before graduating to Poison.

My travel bag has contained a sample size J'Adore for years (and incidentally, I have a champaca tree in full flower by my front gate just now!).

Since Jo Malone is not available locally, I've run out of those. Current daytime favourite: just ran through several bottles of Little White Dress and have transitioned to a local oil-based itr (or attar) called Gili Mitti ('Damp Earth', smells like rain), which is apt with all the hailstorms we're having. Current special-occasion eveningwear favourite: Angel. Most days my sandalwood-blended body oil and vanilla-scented beeswax lip balm (both from small local enterprises) are scent enough.

Interestingly, my mother's taste has always been more steadfast than mine, and is quite different from mine too. We only stand together in not using a daily fragrance, and that's a fairly recent development. L'Air du Temps and Femme will always make me think of her, though the formulations *have* changed. And my still-unopened first birthday gift from my parents is a bottle of Miss Balmain --- I'm rather afraid to open it and find it has turned to vinegar!

I think, of all weird things, Coco Chanel was my best one. I used to wear it occasionally and I'd get a lot of "you smell nice" comments from people. Seems like an old lady perfume, but hey.

I think my personal favourite was Clinique Happy, though.

In the past seven or eight years, I've been getting allergic rashes, and since I'm not sure what all the triggers are, I've sort of given up on perfume. Sadly.

Another 4711 fan here! I first smelled it when I was visiting (then West) Germany as a young teen, it still reminds me of European style and elegance.

Chanel No. 5 was my Mum's scent, so I just can't wear it myself -- interesting how scents can be such Proustian memory keys.

In the late 80s Lauren was all the rage, but it seems too heavy to me now.

These days I don't wear perfume but I splurge on handmade soaps, usually with citrus-based or pine-like scents. I will have to search out Jo Malone fragrances.

Fruitful, thanks for the link to the article! That is very interesting. I love smelling vintage fragrances, though they are hard to come by.

IK: You can smell Chanel No. 19 at Nordstrom. They gave me a sample when I was there one day last year. I was surprised by how much I like it, since I tend not to like green scents. It is still fairly floral though. Jo Malone can be found at Nordstrom, Saks, or Neiman Marcus here in Austin. There are a couple of other places to smell niche perfumes around town, too. I'd be happy to whiffing with you some time! Sounds fun! : )

Daisy by Marc Jacobs on the rare occasion I wear perfume and VS Amber romance body splash for everyday. Those are signature and I never tell anyone what I wear. I'd be too pissed if I end up having someone close to me smelling the same way as me.

My favorite is Chanel No. 5. My mother wore it. I went through a phase when I experimented with many different fragrances, but for the past 20 years it's just been No. 5. I wear it only occasionally so there's no burn-out. I am migraine-prone so I have to be careful.

Oh I just remembered I do like to spray on 4711 in the summer heat. It was formulated in the 1700s in Cologne Germany. Another influence from my (German) mother -- it was her summer scent.

Christieanne, I've had the opportunity to try vintage Obsession, probably parfum/extrait form. It has these amazing gourmand savoury herb/spice notes which are so fascinating!

Obsession has changed a LOT over the years and is said to be a shadow of its former self. If anyone is curious about reformulation, this woman's experience with Obsession is a must-read:

http://www.makeupalley.com/m_117704192

Here's a little of the post (but if you read the link there's much more detail re different formulations):
"If you wait long enough, they will reformulate your perfume and you will smell the difference and mourn the loss of the original... After making a salesperson at Bed Bath and Beyond (yes, you read right, I'd exhausted all other stores) open the box to find...this, I whipped my other two bottles out of my purse to demonstrate why I was not taking this home. She sniffs hers: 'you don't want it?' I have her mine 'oh, this is better.' I hand her the original 'o.m.g. that smells Awesome! Why are they so different?' I explain about sales of companies and accountants, and how DH has been smelling this on ne since we were in high school and how I need the original version. I go next door to the Rite Aid and there, in the perfume case, for the outrageous price of $50 for 1.7 ozs, is the first unilever obsession I've seen all day. I buy it and drag it home, and fell lucky to have gotten my hands on it. I'll test it against the 'original' unilever versions I have and make sure it is the same and them I Will Hoard It for DHs enjoyment."

I really need to try Samsara but haven't got around to finding a good vintage version (I'm obsessive about perfume reformulations).

For me, I don't believe in a signature scent as wearing the same perfume constantly has made me get overexposed and literally sick of it! My late developing love of perfume has been facilitated by my huge sample library which allows me to select a fragrance for my mood, weather, and occasion.

I do of course have my favourites, the foremost probably being Shiseido's Feminite du Bois. It's Autumn here so it's been the perfect time to break it out. I felt like I was wrapped in a cosy, sensual but also otherworldly blanket yesterday whenever I caught a whiff!

I have included my Scent of The Day in some of my WIW posts, but nobody ever commented on that whereas I personally would love to know what perfume people are wearing with their outfits!

Yay, a perfume thread! I love talking perfumes.

I don't have a signature scent because I like to switch out my perfumes based on the weather and my mood. In the summer, I really like Bianca by Tocca, which is a light citrus floral. I also like Chanel No. 19 in the summer, which is very green, but powdery enough not to be astringent. Rose 4 Reines by L'Occitane is nice in the heat too. Very light, powdery rose floral.

I love heavy florals, especially rose-based florals, but I'm not such a fan of the white florals I've smelled and I don't like Iris. I love smelling lots of different fragrances and I order tons of samples from LuckyScent, but I rarely purchase a full bottle because I tend to prefer heavy perfumes and there just aren't enough months out of the year that I can wear them here. It's not cold enough.

It's so interesting how scent evokes memories. My mother has always worn Chanel No.5, so whenever I smell it, I think of her. My own favourite was L'Interdit by Givenchy, but it has been discontinued for some time now and I managed to drop my last bottle on the bathroom floor! I've switched to Rue Faubourg by Hermes - it's interesting but not too sweet, and for a quick spritz I also like Organza by Givenchy. Thanks for starting this fun thread!

In high school I wore Love's Musky Jasmine Flower, then graduated to Tatiana in college (friends wore these and I like them). I remember saving up to by Lauren in college too. When I became a flight attendant, we were treated to makeovers at Saks Fifth Avenue in Miami. They sent us home with a huge bag of good-sized perfume samples. I wore Beautiful for a while and then Paris. Then I tried a muskier Bijan. For my wedding I wore White Shoulders (and my shoulders really were white, so it was fitting). The last real fragrance I remember wearing was Jessica McClintock, which my (then) baby daughter unstopped and poured all over my bedroom carpet! Hubs and I had headaches for weeks and I have never bought a real perfume since!

For a long time I've just been wearing body spray as fragrance, but my favorite one has just been discontinued and I haven't found a new one that I really like on me. It's just as well because hubby has always preferred me *fragrance free*.

I don't have a signature but I love Jo Malone Grapefruit the most out of my scent collection. It's the closest to signature. I love the acid, slight floral but clean green scent.
Jo Malone Lime Basil and Mandarin is my warm weather choice.

I like the clean scents - my high school and college signature scent was an oil perfume called White Musk from a local shop. Kiehl's oils - Coriander, Cucumber and Musk are other faves.

Back in the 80's, I wore Calvin Klein Obsession. Sort of vanilla but oh so strong. Intense fragrance was the norm then but I really like a lighter scent.

I am definately interested in stories behind your signature scents! FYI, in my case I was given a sample of it by my cousin who had allergies and couldn't wear any perfumes. She just said"I don't know if you would like this but try it". Strange but I fell in love with my scent immediately and it actually was my very first perfume, I never really worn fragrance before then.
