Kari, it's funny, but Mandy almost always talks about that line during his shows! lol Sounds like he really enjoyed doing that movie....there are a lot of his songs available on http://www.youtube.com under Mandy Patinkin singing...unfortunately, he hasnt put out any new music in several years, but has 6? CDs out. Hope you enjoy his music if you listen to him

Love these lists - I get new ideas!

First must thank Janet for reminding me about Old 97's. They got play this weekend.

Kind of old school for me lately (and yes, 80's are heavy in rotation):
The Band
Dylan - constantly in my house. His first album was released on my DH birth -day and is thus DH fave.
Springsteen in prep for his tour
Hickman-Dalton Gang (indie country)
Cracker (90's band - one of my all time favorites - they have more albums than you might think)
Talking Heads and B52's in the car
Bob Marley and some other reggae - for son

Had to put on some Vince Gill yesterday in honor of the boots - he is amazing

Kari, have you heard of the band Hem? They are one of my favorites and it sounds like they will be right up your alley.

Kari, I like your list!

My music taste is quite eclectic. Was just listening to some Beats Antique with my stepson, which reminded me of Jah Wobble's Invaders of the Heart -- not well known by most folks but a couple of songs featuring Sinead O'Connor and Dolores O'Riordan from the Cranberries got some attention in the states some years back. Very cool live shows with belly dancers, etc.

I've been really enjoying Black Keys' new album, which reminds me of T Rex and some of the other glam rock of that era. Also the new release from the Denver duo Tennis. And hometown faves Wye Oak (a song of theirs was on The Walking Dead a couple of weeks ago).

Kari, if you like rockabilly, have you heard Imelda May? I got to meet and interview her last year, and she's a lot of fun!

I have no idea what Pandora is so I will have to look into that ( several fabbers have mentioned it).

Coincidentally, I just made myself and my daughter a girl power playlist. It includes Christina Aguillera " Fighter", Mary J. Blige " One", Kelly Clarkson "Stronger", Nikki Minaj "Fly" the clean version, along with Melissa Etheridge, the Dixie Chicks "Taking the Long Way Around", Pink "Perfect", Patti Griffith, Sheryl Crow , The Pretenders, and Tom Jones ( I know, he was quite misogynist...but he has changed ) with the Cardigans and more ( women ).

I 'll have to listen to some of the stuff you listed.

For just myself, I have been listening to Sue Jorge and Pedro Abrunhoso. The latter is Brasilian doing some Bowie and the former is a Portuguese artist.

My favorite newish band is Fitz and the Tantrums. I hardly ever go to concerts and actually went out on a Tuesday night (a "school night!) to go see them in January. They're a sort of R&B inspired indie rock group. Love them.

I've been really into modernist R&B lately, like CeLo Green's Ladykiller album and of course Adele and Amy Winehouse. But after seeing them on the Grammys, I want to check out The Civil Wars.

Kari, if you like Folk-type music, I highly recommend Harry Chapin. Most people know of only his 'Cats in the Cradle' and the wonderful 'Taxi' but he has a lot of really great songs D, I just started listening to Adelle- really like her voice.... I *love* classic (60's-70's) Motown, but my favorite (for yrs) is Mandy Patinkin! I used to go to several of his concerts per yr (by Greyhound Bus) and have met him many times He always did a meet/greet fans...he is a real charmer with a very unique and beautiful voice....

Hehe! You and my boyfriend would get along well in terms of your musical tastes. My parents did not listen to 80's music at all, and I'm a few years younger than he is, so I've never listened to quite as much 80's music as I have since he moved in.
(Same thing with movies. B. is perpetually horrified at the long list of 80's movies I haven't seen!)

These days, in general I'm really digging folk/Americana/bluegrass-inspired music. My long-time favorites Crooked Still, Iron & Wine & Calexico, The Ditty Bops, Chris Thile (Nickel Creek/Punch Brothers as well as his solo albums), Sarah Jarosz, the Goat Rodeo Sessions album, and Alison Krauss/Union Station are frequently on my playlist.

Through Pandora I've also discovered a couple albums and groups that I like - The Bills, Old School Freight Train's "Pickin' on Coldplay" album, Hot Buttered Rum, Elephant Revival, Horse Feathers, Strength in Numbers, Mike Marshall's Big Trio, Norman Blake. I've also dipped my toes into rockabilly with The Caravans.

(This isn't all that I listen to in general - my musical tastes are best described as eclectic, ranging from dance music to classical, though my playlist is usually more heavily leaning towards indie pop and rarely without at least one Beatles song somewhere in the mix - but these days I'm leaning towards gorgeous, upbeat harmonies and incredibly skillful, energetic acoustic music. Perhaps it's a response to stress?)

When I really want to laugh out loud I listen to Flight of the Conchords, Jonathan Coulton, and The Lonely Island. And Great Big Sea always makes me smile.

What's on your playlist these days?
