We had a black bear in our town a week or so ago; apparently it was a young male that mama had decided was old enough to be out on his own. Lots of sightings of this young guy around our suburb for about four days. Fortunately he headed out to a more rural area before anything bad happened to him. The kids were disappointed he never made an appearance on our street. How fun that you were able to get a photo from a safe distance My only "encounter" with a bear in person was while hiking; a very young cub was playing in the greenery just a few feet from the trail, well hidden so we didn't see him until we were right in front of him. Luckily he was afraid of us and froze so we loudly walked by, and he booked it up the mountain away from us. We have a red squirrel that lives in a tree in our yard and torments the dog. </p> <p>Yes, the earthquake and the bear were both yesterday - amazing! I love wildlife sightings too. I've seen many bears, but this is my favorite way to see one, from the car and a safe distance away (not on my bike, ten yards away). Since we live in the woods, I see deer in our yard almost every day, as well as rabbits. Foxes and raccoons make regular appearances too.</p> <p>But bears are a whole other story! Leaving the parking lot we caught this furry dude wandering the road... He looks like a teenager from his size and behavior. Nice to see from a safe distance. </p>
