I agree, Maya. I think this woman has turned shopping from a fun activity into a military organisation. I agree with most of her points but most of all, shopping should be about finding something you love which fits you at a suitable price while having fun.

I feel kind of sorry for her. She sure knows how to make fashion tedious and boring.

CocoLion-Good point, it is easy to repeat when sticking with one style and classic items.

April-I 100% agree. It's a pet peeve that the price I pay in the store for an item is often not my final price due to having items tailored after purchase.

Michelle-I agree, I like to shop with friends because they often get you to try something NEW.

Bella-I can see your point too, but if you aren't not a people pleaser, shopping with friends should not be as big of an influence issue. To always shop alone, that I would find boring.

Aida-I DID notice the prices/designers mentioned. And I do agree, sometimes shopping alone is grand. I find it works best for me, when I am looking for one specific item. My "mission" shopping days. For days when I am more interested in just browsing, having friends along is nice.

Isabel-Yes, I agree, and hope that with age, comes wisdom, larger pockets and even fab-er wardrobe.

There are some things that are just unavoidable because you just don't know what will work until you start working it. I know that often, I think something is practical and fits perfectly and goes with everything, but then it doesn't work....like the sweater that ends up being too warm.

I think, that Aida, points out correctly, that hopefully with age and experience we get to know ourselves better and hopefully make better choices. But it is very personal. I know that I tend to lose my senses if I shop with other people. But it is the exact opposite with some of my friends. To each his own.

I feel like her advice is for someone who already knows their style, and shops high end (look at all of her examples). Some of the advice is OK, but "Don’t experiment" really annoys me because that is my favorite part of fashion. If I didn't experiment I wouldn't have nearly everything in my closet; I'd be uncomfortable wearing clothes that don't fit my personality but look "classic." I also wouldn't be able to have fun playing with trends, you know, those things that "scream 'fashion!". What good is all of this without fun?

EDIT: Also wanted to comment that I MUCH prefer shopping alone because I can take as much time as I want. All my potential shopping friends have way less shopping stamina and get grumpy after 2 stores

I think there is some truth to tailoring advice. Of course, it is a good habit to get things tailored for custom fit. However, if one falls into habit of buying things with the intention of getting them altered but keeps them in a huge pile, without ever getting around to it, then yes, it is a waste of money.
As for shopping with friends, I think there is also some truth to not making the best purchases when shopping with a friend. It is true that you may try on new shapes and silhouettes but also you may feel pressured into buying things that are not necessarily your style or fit with the rest of your wardrobe. So I can see where she is coming from.

Don't shop with a friend? I guess Angie better shut this site right down, then. :p Ridiculous!! If your "friends" aren't being honest, you gotta wonder about their other friendship qualifications!

And the crucial question: What's a "Crombie"? :)

ETA: Really, I think having things tailored is a necessity. And I absolutely hate doing it. I hate the fitting and pinning. I hate the changing. I hate paying for it. I hate committing to which shoes I'm going to wear with pants so that I can have them hemmed correctly.

But there's nothing like clothes that have been tailored to fit.

I thought the "do you have one just like it at home" and "will it go with the rest of your wardrobe" kind of in conflict. If you stick with a certain style, you will end up with lots of similar things with only subtle differences. (That is a mistake I have made in the past, and I have stuffed drawers to prove it.)

Also, almost every pair of pants I own has been altered (shortened). I like premium denim and 35" inseams are normal!

Hi,

I thought this article was interesting.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/fem.....-wear.html

Some of the points I agree with. And others I do not. I certainly have more than one item that’s gone unworn in my wardrobe and have been prone to impulse shopping or “but it’s a good deal shopping” on occasion. Yet others, such as don’t buy items that need alteration (really, if I didn’t alter my pants I’d have maybe one pair!) or buy items that scream “fashion” (a wardrobe of ONLY classic pieces?!) I was surprised with.
