I can't add anything new here, Sona--please just take it easy. You know how hard work it is for the body to simply build itself back up. I will have thoughts of you sunning yourself on the beach, in hopes that they translate into reality at the soonest chance! In the meantime, it looks like your family can manage for themselves and are able to enjoy summer in their own way, so just focus on getting better!

You are in my thoughts, sweet Sona. Please rest up and listen to your body. That way you will be on the beach with your hubs and cherub sooner. That's the best motivation!

Sona, I'm so sorry your body's taking longer to adjust than you'd hoped, but do give it time, please? It's only taking what it needs to take ---- and it's better to take that time NOW, than do deal with unpleasant issues later. Isn't that what you'd have told a patient who came to you?

Also, don't underestimate the emotional aftermath of the procedure. Yes, you've been upbeat and brave and unbelievably strong... but the mind needs to heal as much as the body. It's not just the trauma, but the way your chemical balances need to slow down and reset after all the pain and adrenaline of the last many weeks and months. And that without the kind of pharmaceutical support most bodies are able to depend on.

My great-uncle, a paediatrician, was often heard scolding at young mothers (he was patient with his *patients*, hardly ever with their parents!) who came complaining to him that their infant wasn't eating normally or growing normally or talking at the normal time: "There is no such thing as a 'normal baby', don't you understand? We look at 10 babies, take an average and say '6 weeks, 6 kilos is normal' --- but NO baby will EVER be normal, you hear? No baby will EVER gain wait right on schedule, speak right on schedule, contract measles and recover right on schedule --- no more than you the mother will bleed and breastfeed and sleep exactly like the lady sitting next to you. We're human beings! And no human being is ever truly normal, or it would be a scary world!" He was a cantankerous old chap, and impatient with normal fears and worries himself --- but he was a brilliant physician and absolutely spot-on in this.

Normal is not a measure to hold yourself up to. Take what time YOU, the unique and wonderful being called Sona, need to get back on your feet. The bermudas and the beach will be waiting when you do. Until then, tell the world's responsibilities to wait, and take a longer and much-deserved break. Hey, even go home to your mother to be babied for a bit, if that's what it takes to give yourself 'permission' to stay in bed.

Take care, Sona, and wish you a healthy, *happy* recovery soon --- as soon as your body says so, that is.

Sona I am sorry you are recuperating as quickly as you had hoped. Coming up two years ago I had a hysterectomy and had 6 weeks recovery time. I decided to make the most of it and while the first few weeks I really did rest, took pain meds, watched the whole 6 series of Sex In The City (I had never watched it before) and enjoyed visits from my girlfriends, in the final weeks I started to go out shopping, see friends and get back to normal before I returned to work. Despite the initial pain and tiredness etc I actually recall this time as a happy time, so can I encourage you to not fight it. Just do what you have to to get well and try not to have to many expectations. I am sure you will be up and around before you know it.

Hang in there - I know it can't be easy to be in this situation, but I think it's very important to just take a few days or weeks to heal. Never mind what the 'norm' is for everyone else in terms of healing (or the so-called average), because those ideas are for people who can take the anti-inflammatories, and for right now, you can't take them - so naturally, your healing process is going to take a wee bit longer. Don't push yourself! I know you just want to get up and get on with things, and get it all "over with", but it's extremely important to just take some time out to heal and rest.

It's not necessary to keep pushing yourself and keep trying to rush through this.

I don't know if it helps at all, but sometimes I've felt like it wasn't "ok" to feel my own feelings or cry, because I was terrified that it wouldn't stop, that I'd cry and cry and cry - that I'd somehow be enveloped or swamped by the depths of my feelings. I can't help but wonder if there's a similar kind of feeling going on there for you too? Not about crying or feeling emotions, necessarily - but is it possible that being a health care professional, that you are not all that comfortable with being 'under the weather' for even just a short while?

I just wanted to say that if you allow it (whatever pain you're experiencing) to happen - things will change and improve a lot faster than if you try to push past things and pretend it's not happening. Pain changes and pain ends. Much better to take to your bed for a few days than try to push on through it all. It's ok to be 'under the weather' for a few days, ask for some TLC, and ask people to get you a cup of tea and the paper, while you rest up. I promise, you will heal a whole lot faster this way than if you try to rush yourself back to normal before you've had a chance to acknowledge and heal what's "going on", so to speak.

Give yourself some space, some TLC - and remember, it is truly ok (and safe) to feel what you're feeling. In fact, by doing this, I truly believe you will speed up the healing process.

I am so glad that you took the day 'off' and that you had a good GP (doctor) to sort of hold your hand and explain that it's normal for you to take a bit longer to heal due to not being able to take anti-inflammatories.

Do you feel better, having taken that day off? Take another few of those, please! Nuture yourself, and take good care of yourself. There's no rush. It will be ok - just because you take some time to heal does not mean you're going to end up feeling ill for a long time or anything. Healing isn't about denying what's going on, and it isn't trying to push yourself to hurry up and get better before you've even had a chance to acknowledge (emotionally and physically) what's happening. It's a good idea to turn a little bit inward, and extend some of that fabulous, caring spirit of yours toward yourself. By doing this, you'll truly heal and you'll also speed up the process, instead of getting in the way of it.

Sending over tea, some homemade chicken soup (with turmeric in it, a natural anti-inflammatory), a pile of slightly dated (being as it's 10pm here now) Sunday papers to read while you loll around in your room. Sleep in tomorrow morning, and someone here at YLF will bring you a breakfast tray. Take Monday (and Tuesday and Wednesday) off too please! If you do that, then you'll be in better shape for Thursday - 4th of July, which could be kind of fun.

What do you think? Take Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday OFF. By YLF order. If you feel like puttering around and enjoying some festivities on Thursday, then that's great. Take Friday off too, plus the weekend as well. I bet this will have you feeling a thousand percent better by next Monday (no, not tomorrow, but next Monday).

Take care, and feel better soon.

I am so sorry that you aren't healing as fast as you had wished, but your dr. is right about it being okay (GOOD, even) to allow yourself some pain meds, your family to help you and to get lots of rest. The more you rest and the less you overexert yourself now, the faster you will recover and be able to exert yourself later. Of course, that is so much easier for someone else to say than it is to go through it. : ( I wish you a speedy recovery, and know that the beach will still be there, regardless of how long it takes to get back to 100%.

Hang in there! It'll come. Everyone is different, and there's no question that ibuprofen can help a lot, so if you're not able to take any, it's not surprising that the recovery might take longer.

This is one of those times when you are just going to have to be patient and go with what your body is telling you and let family members wait on you. Friends with similar surgeries say it usually take 6 months to feel like yourself again. I'm sure you'll feel well enough to go to the beach before the end of the summer if you don't over do it, but if not, why not plan a winter vacation at a warm beach?

Sona, you have to rest!! Please allow yourself some time to heal and recharge. There is plenty of summer left to enjoy, once you are feeling better.
