EGAD!!! just went to Sephora and noticed the redid the Clinique line -- and seems like they discontinued my 2 colors!!! I am so picky about finding colors and it took me a very long time to find these 2 (Angel Red in Different Lipstick, and Plum Nude in High Impact SPF). If they are gone from all stores I'm boycotting Clinique and going back to MAC -- I also like MAC Lustres (sheerer lipsticks) but I need to find a red in a lustre that works for me.

I also use Burt's Bees in pomegranate as a lip balm -- I like that I can eat it if I need to b/c the ingredients are non-toxic. I also have a Alba Terra Tints in Blaze (reddish pink) but I find it too messy to apply and it goes on thick. Once the tube is done, so am I. I find that balms are good for everyday use, but when I want to look polished back to lipstick.

Mo, I wear that exact shade of BB balm as well, when I am out hiking or whatever - doesn't hurt to look cute even on the trail!

Me too! I used one brand of lip balm that I didn't find sticky or waxy and it was recently discontinued. After a lot of experimenting I've found that a nice lipstick is more similar to the creamy texture of my favorite balm.

I love the Jane Iredale mineral lipsticks.

I guess I'm on a separate team altogether with tinted lip balm. Burt's Bees lip shimmer in Cocoa. It doesn't taste gross, which is important to me *and* my BF. It's minty fresh actually. I do gloss when I'm getting 'gussied up' but that leads to the BF calling me sticky lips. And my hair can be a problem if there's any kind of breeze.

Welcome to team lipstick! I wear it every day.

Here's another excellent reason to choose lipstick over gloss: UV protection. Lipstick offers some measure of protection against the sun's rays, especially since you have to reapply it several times a day. I worked with a woman who got skin cancer on her upper lip, and had to have surgery to remove a big chunk of the lip. People put sunscreen on their faces, but tend to forget about their lips, when the skin there is in fact even more susceptible to cancer because it's thinner. You can get UV chapsticks, of course, but why use one of those when you could make your lips look so much lovelier with some colour?

oh, fun fun fun!!! i've been on Team Lipstick for decades myself - if you get a chance try Lipstick Queen! they're online but sadly not in a huge # of brick and mortar stores. her lip products are not cheap, but the colors are gorgeous, well thought out & flattering. i love the Sinners - concentrated color, matte finish, stay put, non-drying; great for mixing with gloss, chapstick, other colors....... her Pink is the only one i like to wear. she just makes lip products, you can find unique products you won't find elsewhere. lotta fun for lipstick maniacs!! have a great time, steph

Yay! I'm gradually shifting over myself.
I love lipsticks from
NARS, MAC, Chanel, and even Sephora brand. I'm really into matte finishes right now, but lipstick is just so much more textural than gloss. Makes me feel a little more chic, too.
This Chanel is not matte, and actually is quite light and effortless feeling. It's a must try, IMO.

I love lipstick, but I rarely have more than 2 shades at a time: true red and plum-toned nude. I don't like the feeling of gloss b/c I find it quite sticky. I like to put something on my lips and barely feel it afterward -- for hours if possible -- and I'm happy my lipstick does that. I do go for mid-pricey brands though (Clinique, MAC, etc.).

NYX: Cheap brand of cosmetics. I know Ulta carried it, not sure who else does. And the type was this one: http://www.nyxcosmetics.com/pr.....d-lipstick

I am getting so tempted to try lipstick -- and you two are making it sound even more enticing. . .

What is NYX - a brand of lipstick? If so, is there only one type of it you'd recommend?

I wonder if I can't get similar results from a bolder color of my fave Cover Girl Lip Stain?

Between Angie and Lisa Eldridge (www.lisaeldridge.com), I've finally started to appreciate the merits if lipstick over gloss. My husband put the MAC (Wonder Woman) Russian Red in my Easter basket, and there may be no going back. Even better, I've found a cheap lipstick that doesn't dry out my lips (which was why I used to go with gloss: lipstick was either expensive or dry). Hurrah for NYX! (And for the hubs.)
