Sona, I agree with Isabel, it's raining NOW, for you, so it seems to me to be perfectly acceptable to spend a little making yourself feel better.

I wish you all the best for your surgery - I have several friends who've had the same procedure (and I am considering it, although at my age, 48, I could just 'hang on' and use medication) and it's changed their lives.

Sona, you are going through so much right now, I can't even imagine. You have got to find a way to be gentle to yourself and an outlet to deal with the stress--why not shopping for things that bring you pleasure? I hope you can enjoy it without guilt.

You must take care of yourself and it includes your mental state as well. If right now little shopping takes your mind away from bad and depressing thoughts then it is a good thing. I don't think it will turn you into shopaholic

Sona, I was thinking about what you said regarding saving for a rainy day. Well, sweetie, it IS a rainy day. Rainy days are not just when one loses one's job or their is a financial catastrophe. It is for times when one is sick or depressed or tired too. I speak from experience on this from the last 2 years. My hubby said to me last week, " We spend $5k a year on dog walking/training ? !!!! " He just figured this out, though he knows what we pay a month. I said, " Yes " with no guilt. I said that's what the emergency fund was for...and cancer is an "emergency". ( And thankfully we have the money because we also saved for those tsunamis....we were pretty frugal too, so it was never for a "rainy" day but for a full on hurricane. )

Nothing that you have done is irreparable. You will try on what you ordered and I am sure that you will not keep it all. We rarely do. But in the meantime, it may bring you a very small slice of solace. That is worth the money, Sona. Tell your husband, THE RAINY DAY IS HERE RIGHT NOW.

I agree with Naz that there are times when we lean on shopping as a stress reliever, and that that's ok as long as you don't do too much financial damage. You are going through a pretty tough time, so try to be gentle and not heap guilt on yourself. A little self-comfort is ok.

Know that all will be well in time.

You're not alone. We all have our ways of dealing with every day life and shopping definitely makes me feel good...just as long as it doesn't stress you out when you get the bill then that might be different problem all together.

Oh...I am sooo sorry to hear about all this. It really has been such a struggle and haul for you. It must be particularly hard with no family nearby. I can't imagine going through this with no family. I am not a shrink, though I watched allot of Frasier...but that was a comedy, not real "shrinking". So I don't have much to add. It is devastating and maybe, sometimes we just need to let ourselves be devastated for a little while instead of always feeling that we have to fight it. Sometimes it really does just suck.

Sona, I have been thinking about you continuously and keep thinking if I was in this situation, how would I feel? Please take comfort in the fact that this shall pass and you will emerge from this far stronger and healthier. I am not sure how you feel about kids but did you want a lot of children? You need to get in touch with your deepest feelings on this issue and I am sure you will find some answers that will comfort you. A few challenges that I have faced in my life, I have realized that the strength comes from within.

I am so sorry you are going through this. If online shopping helps you cope, no problem there.
"Secondary infertility" (physically not being able to have more children when you want to) can be incredibly emotionally difficult. There is a lot of grief involved, as well as your health stuff. I know you didn't ask for advice, but Resolve.org exists for infertility resources for people going through this. They may have a local support group if you think you'd be interested.

I have been shopping online a lot. trying to be sensible to buy silks/blends that can be multi-season.
But there is somethinng about the finality of no more biological children, ongoing anemia, blood loss, nausea and just the 'blah's, lack of physical intimacy with the Mr, being on pain meds and antianxiety meds, not sleeping well that has had me seeking pleasure in doing high yield, mostly sensible, fits my lifestyle shopping.
an extra paycheck this month and bonus earnings in july will mean the credit card bills will get paid off in time without interest.
i'm not really asking for advice just confessing. My frugal hubby will go into a state of catatonic shock so he does not know.
My shrink is on summer vacation so we have not been able to connect but she would likely say it is ok: I earn a living too working part time albeit. We save like every day will be a rainy day.
I'm just really asking for some support amd perhaps understanding. I realize there is also a fear of the finality of this 'baby shop is closed' and the inherent risk of any surgery small or big of having complications.
I am hoping to slowly redevelop stamina and be able to model my wiw's and enjoy my purchases sans guilt post procedure.
tall order but I will work at it.
Thank you in advance for being a support system for all YLF'ers and like minded people.
Merci.
P>S: although fall/winter is my dominant season other than a nice coat I have tons of layering blouses, sweaters, fomal pants, skirts, tights, blouses and boots. So NAS is likely to be a small shopping escapade rather than the much larger one last season.
