Star, I can totally understand her wanting to keep the birds happy. That is a fair concern, especially being a bird lover. Though, clearly a bummer for you. We once had a lovely cat for a few weeks. Also.a stray that just appeared. We never found the owners so we adopted her. She lived on the enclosed porch, with the hope that keeping her there wouldn't trigger or aggravate allergies. Well, within 3-4 weeks, Thomasina Cuddles, as we had named her, had caused full-blown allergies and sinus infections for both my dad and brother. So, unfortunately, we had to find her a new home.

I did not grow up with cats either as my Late Mom was a bird lover and she felt a cat in the garden kept them away. There was one stray kitten who 'popped in' for three months but then he left. He was a tabby too. My DH also loves cats.

Kate, we really love orientals too! In just over a week, Lettie is already sleeping on our laps or in our beds constantly. I'm loving it. <3 I will try to share a photo of Otis! He isn't usually so curmudgeonly, but that day he was. Lettie might win over Otis. She's very sweet. Henry loves playing with her but has been getting rougher at times. We are keeping on eye on his rough play...

Helena, oh I love that you called her regal! Thank you <3

Star, thank you! Oh he, indeed, a Pretty Boy! He has such a darling face and expression. I never had kitties growing up due to family allergies. But my husband came with three.

Lettie is a fascinating creature. Aw Henry is adorable too. I love kitties. Mine is Pretty Boy. We thought he was a she and named 'it' Pretty when it was very tiny. Since he already was responding to Pretty when we realised we added on 'Boy'. Here is a pic from back then.

I love Oriental shorthairs! The ears, the wonderful honking voice. Lettie is a beauty, and bag-sitter Henry is adorable. What joy!!

I’m just sorry we missed out on seeing 19-year-old Otis. Maybe Lettie will cajole her way into Otis’s affection.

Laurie, oh thank you! She is tiny -- more than we realized until we met her in person. But still quite a great size. Easier to hold and snuggle And I love chatty cats too. Our Scottish Straight trills and chats some, but usually when he's alone rather than with/to us. She is more than making up for that!

SW Ann, thank you dearly! Haha re: Otis. He mostly wants to sleep and be left alone. We are still waiting to see if Lettie worms her way into his heart - -which is possible! Especially if it involves naps in the sun...

Pil, thank you! It is a typical weight. 5-8 lbs is normal for female Oriental Shorthairs. So her size isn't unusual. They're not very heavy or large cats. The males only weight 8-12 lbs.

Suz, oh thank you! We had a tortoiseshell Maine Coone for years. But the Chocolate Tortie is new to us. Our last Oriental was a Blue Tick Tabby, which was also rare. Somehow they find us.
So far, Lettie and Henry are getting along really well. It's only been 3 days and they're playing together--and getting into loads of trouble. (They managed to shatter a plate and lid, chip a mug, and turn over the garbage the last couple of nights.) I didn't realize you had and loved Orientals too!! You probably mentioned it and I forgot :/ Such a beautiful story of how you found your first kitty. <3 They really are such lovely, sociable cuddle bugs. I remember growing up hearing all sorts of horror stories about Siamese. Not sure how true they were. Our experience has been far from it thus far!

Slim Cat, I love your name even more Thank you <3 We are really loving her!

I fully understand your love of Orientals. My first Siamese was a street cat (he'd been abandoned or lost by someone during a move, and followed me home) and honestly, it's been Siamese all the way for us since then. They are so sociable and cuddly.

I know many of you have pets and love animals. So sharing here!

We have welcomed Lettie into our hearts and home <3 She is a 2-year-old Oriental Shorthair. Her coloring is chocolate tortoise— very unusual. We got her from a breeder who really wanted to find her a good home. She had complications with her first litter unfortunately. Her breeder wisely decided she would have better quality of life being spayed and finding her a new home.

We got her has a companion for our Scottish Straight, Henry. He’s nearly 1-year-old. Our elderly cat just doesn’t have energy or desire to be Henry’s playmate. We also missed having an Oriental. Our beloved Meeker passed away nearly a year ago. Orientals have very social, engaging personalities and talk up a storm. We missed that in our home.

Anyway. We named her Lettie. It means joy, gladness, free woman, and littler. It also reminds me of chocolate and lattes, which is similar to her coloring. (Choco-Lettie ) She is all of 6 lbs, extremely sweet, joyful, abundantly energetic and vocal.

Thank you for indulging me.

Lettie in photos 1-3, Henry in photo 4. Otis, his curmudgeonly 19-year-old self, said no thank you to a photo. Ha!
