Here is an encouraging story: Our experience with spinal surgery on our big guy (Rocky, the husky mix) was overwhelmingly positive, even though we could have taken a few European vacations for the money we spent. He's worth it though! He went into surgery unable to stand or walk, with three ruptured discs in his spine. There was a herniated disc pressing on her spinal cord. We visited her last night and she already seems better. The doctor is very optimistic about a full recovery. We couldn't stay long though. The doctor said if she got too excited we would have to leave.
