Having spent $50,000 (yes you read that correctly) between 2007-2009 on full mouth reconstruction, I completely understand your pain. I have had a similar frustration in that the dentist crowned a front bottom tooth that was fine, just a little crooked. Now it is very wobbly and I fear it might fall out soon. I wish I could blame the dentist, but I do know that one change can affect something else, even without dentist error. It can be a domino effect. So I can't hold him responsible for my wobbly tooth even though I want to.

Hope you feel better soon!

I agree - get yourself to a dentist, fashionista, you'll feel so much better afterwards. Nothing is gained by putting it off (not like going to the doctor when you have the flu, say, when you sometimes do get better with rest on your own). I actually love root canals, weirdly - they *make the pain go away* and aren't nearly as annoying as getting a filling, IMO. And getting my first two wisdom teeth out when I was a teenager was a big thing, but getting these two out was not that bad, as it turned out. Dental science has advanced a lot. :)

Hope you're feeling better, Victoria.

Believe me, the pain I was having was worse than anything I have experienced, I couldn't eat, sleep or function at all. Although I went through major ordeal with this tooth, I am just happy that horrible pain is gone. Go to dentist, sweetie, and don't put it off. Its gonna have to come out and the sooner you deal with it, the better it is.
P.S. I still have all of my wisdom teeth, they all came out fine and never bothered me, can you believe it?

Oh god I have been wailing in pain for the last two weeks due to my wisdom tooth yet can't be strong enough to go to the doctor for checkup. I am just too coward in my tooth's case. Well I was going to write something in YLF about this and I came across your writeup.
Take care and rest. I know the pain of toothache:-(

Truly sounds like the weekend from hell, but as VC said, can only get better. Hang in there; treat yourself to a tub of ice cream (JUST the thing for the swollen mouth).

The stress and pain of last week is likely even harder than the actual extraction itself on your body (been there: went in for 'two-minute' wisdom tooth extraction, came out two hours later after surgery to CUT the tooth out as it had fused to the bone). So give yourself a lot of room to rest and recuperate.

It is possible that some damage was done when the crown was fitted; but it *happened* and you couldn't have lived with a cracked tooth. So this was necessary anyway. And only the most amazingly brave human beings would admit to having done their doctoring poorly and waive fees, because that would open doors to lawsuits etc. Que sera! In the Middle Ages, you were lucky to have any teeth left in your head by your mid-30s! We're a long step beyond that at least. :-/

I read your thread the other day about possibly needing a root canal, or was it a 're-do' of an old root canal (this can happen, in rare cases)?

In any case, I just wanted to let you know that it *will* get better, and I'm so sorry you're going through this - especially that bit where you experienced so much anxiety/stress because of having an extraction. I haven't had an extraction, but I have had a couple of root canals, one of which 'failed' - and had to be re-done years later. Not fun at all.

The main thing at this point is to focus on healing and ramping down the stress. I don't know whether it's possible if a tooth could be cracked because someone put a crown in wrong or what have you - but the thing is, you've dealt with the situation as best you can. You had some bad pain, didn't take no for an answer, found a dentist who could see you sooner rather than later, had the situation analyzed - and you got it fixed. From here on out, things will only get better.

Sending over some Advil, some chamomile tea and a stack of the latest fashion magazines.

Hang in there - this is not fun stuff at all...but you're through the worst of it now. It will only get better from now on.

:( Sorry that you had to have a tooth pulled. I just had my last two wisdom teeth out, and it is really stressful to have done.

Was it a new crown? I don't know about the cracking thing, although it makes sense that something might have gone wrong during the drilling-down process on your tooth. I ended up having to have a root canal through a new crown once, and the process of getting the crown done was probably what made the root canal necessary. Argh!

Take care of yourself - ice and painkillers and soft food are your friends!

Yesterday was a horrible day. Because I was in such pain from my tooth, I kept calling and trying to find someone who would see me the same day and thank god, one dentist told me to come in and he would squeeze me in. Well, once I got there, he took one look at exrays he took and told me my tooth was cracked and it would have to be pulled. I asked him if the crack could have occured while my crown was being fitted few weeks prior and he said it was possible but there was no way to tell.
so i had to go back to my regular dentist and he pulled the tooth and put in temporary bridge. Not only I had to pay for crown just few weeks ago but now I have to pay for extraction and the bridge. On the top of it all, I never had any teeth pulled before(and its my very front tooth to boot) so I was freaking out and had a major panic attack while in dentist chair. Today I feel like I was run over by a truck and my upper lip is all swollen. Still very upset about the whole situation since it appears that my dentist did crack my tooth(not that he admitted to it or anything, of course, he denied it completely and just told me that it could have occured at any time). it doesn't seem logical that my crown was intact and yet my tooth inside was cracked, right? I'm not a dentist but I had plenty of work done before and his explanation makes no sense. If there are any dentist outthere, feel free to tell me what do you think.
