Thank you for the reassurance and support, ever. so. much!</p> <p>I don't even mind the going west (Delhi or Mumbai) to go east, because there simply are far more international flights out of those cities. We've done this before because it gets us on a more convenient flight (an overnighter vs a lost day, a shorter in-flight time). But I don't see the point of doing so when there IS a speedier way east to east and there is NO convenience gained AND the better options are actually cheaper!! </p> <p>Even so, I would have gone (west, then east) but for the lack of overnight arrangements. When I make crazy penny-pinching for myself, that is one thing. But when someone puts together a mega-budget international launch flying in media from all over the world, and then pinches pennies on a single hotel room, it doesn't bode well...!</p> <p>But yes, as you all have reminded me, much good thinking also came of this! I'm not going! Because I don't want to. </p> <p>The organizers just let things lie too late, and communicated too little, and assumed too much. My editor and I decided we didn't need to put up with it. </p> <p>The last straw was being told at 7.30pm today that...<br /> (a) I was to take a 7.30pm flight the next day to Delhi (westwards), so as to catch the midnight flight to Hong Kong (eastwards) --- bizarrely illogical but manageable; I even quickly asked for an earlier flight and set up a transit hotel review up north in the capital, getting me a power nap and a decent meal in the bargain<br /> (b) I was to take an afternoon flight from Hong Kong to Mumbai (ie shooting far eastwards right over my hometown and half again the distance beyond!!), arrive past midnight and EITHER hang around the airport for 6 hours before I caught a flight back home next morning (don't even talk of the 'facilities' at Mumbai airport); OR, if that was too boring and in case I wasn't quite tired out, take the 2am flight to Delhi, northwards, and again take the morning flight back home from there, eastwards and southwards!!! --- I fear that was the last straw for me, the deal-breaker.</p> <p>So none of the dressier WIWs I was looking forward to, nor a collage of outfit snapshots for future trips.
