So glad to hear you are on the mend!! I had a good laugh about the food, thinking, hmm, when you're out of surgery, the last thing you'll want is food for a while!!

I can't believe your surgery was at 9pm!

Oh wow Tam what a LOOONG day you had But at least its over now and hopefully you will be back in action in no time and running better than ever. Its good to hear you aren't too uncomfortable. Take it easy with that walk though young lady!

And thanks for the pics - I love seeing the photos! (I'm a geek like that too - love xrays and internal pics LOL)

Both my girls have had endoscopies (and yep, loved seeing the photo's from them too!!) and my eldest has had a few surgeries and I'm so pleased they don't keep the kiddies waiting too long without food, but can honestly say that my pair have never eaten as well as they have in the days post-op LOL

Enjoy your comfort food, rest up and be gentle on yourself!

I am glad to hear that your surgery was successful and you are recovering well, Tam.
Any surgery is no fun... but at least you could eat the next day! My two stays in the hospital were for the plastic surgery to sew back my torn lip and thyroid surgery. And both times I could not eat for 3 days afterward (sore mouth in the first case and sore throat in the second) - just drinks and ice cream :-(
I think it is good you started to walk again - it should speed up the recovery. Just do not overdo it!

I've had two leg surgeries this year, so I can sooooo identify with your story about being so hungry before (especially after waiting!) and then not wanting to eat right after. Then that ravenous day-after hunger!!! "Feed me!!!"
Get well soon!

Yay for the successful surgery! I hope recovery is quick and noneventful. I was rx'ed with a meniscal tear a year ago and have been putting off both the PT and the surgery. I missed your earlier thread, but it sounds like you were in a lot of pain. Hope post-surgical recovery you are 100% again!

Thanks Michelle!! I was going to attempt to explain Bubble n' Squeak, but here's 2 websites that do it much better. The version I had was mainly potatoes, peas and corn and came served on some grainy toast. Nothing like a big plate of carbs in the morning! Mmmmmmm.

Oh Tam, so glad to know the surgery was successful and is causing you less pain than expected! Sounds like the injuries were more extensive than expected, so it's a really good thing you got them dealt with!

Thanks all SO MUCH for all your kind words and thoughts. They kept me going throughout a looooooong day of waiting. In the end I didn't get operated on until about 9pm, and I wasn't even last on the list. Surgeons keep crazy hours don't they - I could never be one! Although I would have much rather have been on the other side of the operating table yesterday that's for sure!!

I was so obsessed about food last night. Just before they took me down to theatre I made a ward nurse promise that there would be lots of sandwiches for me - "not just one". Of course when I got back after midnight all woozy from the anaesthetic that was the last thing on my mind. Another nurse tried to make me drink a cup of tea at 4am because she was worried I hadn't urinated. All I wanted to do then was sleep!!!

I got to go home mid-morning (after a miniscule hospital breakfast). On the way home my flatmate and I stopped for 2nd breakfast and I ate a HUGE plate of bubble 'n squeak. Then we made a big pot of pea and ham soup which I had a massive bowl for lunch, and a smaller bowl for dinner along with a homemmade mini pizza. That makes me feel slightly more virtuous than if I had made my way through an entire takeaway pizza like I felt like doing last night!!!

As for the knee itself (now that I have talked about the important bit - FOOD), it's doing a lot better than I expected. Turns out there were 2 big tears in the meniscus, as well as the meniscus itself scrunching up in an unbecoming way and not sitting nicely and flat against the tibia.

Here's pics if you're keen, no blood and guts don't worry. If I'm feeling extra nerdy tomorrow I may even put together a blog post about it!

http://www.flickr.com/photos/yublocka/4681374983/
http://www.flickr.com/photos/yublocka/4682005308/

Its not sore at rest, only when I move or weighbear. Throughout even today it's become easier to walk so I'm hoping tomorrow will be even better!

xx tam
