We have moved overseas with 2 children under 10 years old - from Ukraine to Canada - 13 years ago. It was a very stressful and tiring time but also a very rewarding. I think that was the best decision our family made, ever!<br /> Don't worry about your boy: kids are so adaptable it is really amazing. He is also very little and it will be easier for him still. Moves are harder on teens because they already formed relationships and suffer from breaking them but you are safe from this age for another 10 years, right?:-)<br /> I wish you luck in your move and I am sure you will enjoy Germany and a change. We moved alot when I was a kid (all within the States) and I feel I learned how to adapt to new people and situations better than my brother who was younger and we were more settled by the time he was old enough for school.<br /> I look at a new place (or job or school) as an opportunity to be a new and improved you. You get a clean slate and get to present your best and make different choices. I did always notice that the first kid who always approached me was also the least popular (makes sense - they get a clean slate too) Not that it's bad, but I always found it interesting. I would advise your son to take time to meet and get to know kids before settling into a group. We moved countries when our son was young and changed states in the US several times, and I think our lives were greatly enriched by the new experiences.</p> <p>As it happens, I studied German in middle school, which made it very easy for me to to learn English in high school. I think the two languages are somewhat similar and many Germans speak excellent English. I am currently preparing to host a German student in my lab in the US and trying to recover my long lost German.
