My point being, that project immediately led me to start fantasizing about how game-changing a new master BR closet would be. I really need to do something simply because of my new shoe collection! But the whole thing is wastefully set up. We probably have sufficient room for two people, even with projected expansion of my wardrobe. </p> <p>It looks like something we could do on our own, but I'm not sure. I would like an experienced hand who can think most efficiently on how to use the space...Rita, you sound much more assured in knowing exactly what you want. Also, the physical part of it--I know you're supposed to be able to take down the shelving and move it around, but it's actually much harder than it looks, and now I'm not able to do it and my husband will clearly not want to be involved. So I want to hire someone to take it off my hands and come up with a perfect system and implement it! So I guess I have to ask around. Some home organizers may do it but not everyone. How did you find your person?</p> <p>ETA: It's also funny how you mentioned sunlight. We have a smaller version of the same closet system in our guest bedroom. There is no window in that closet (our master bedroom has one, so we have natural light, but no strong sunlight coming in, as it faces a brick wall from a very nearby building). I much prefer to keep my things in the closet with natural light. I dislike fluorescent lighting even for quickly picking out my outfits. But that's just me. I hope our indirect light will not age our clothes too much. I don't think it will be an issue; it's kind of weak light. You have really thought everything out. I want to put in a light on a switch which will require new electrical wiring. I also need to drywall off a very poorly insulated window. It makes me crazy to think about sun shining on my clothes and shoes and the fading this causes over time. We need to replace probably 40 year old carpet in there, paint and put in the system. I am not looking at an expensive Elfa system. This is out of reach for us right now. The scope of the project gets us into serious money before we even start on the hanging system. The Rubbermaid system that I posted seems like it would work perfectly for us. I have an old house and this renovation is just one of a long line of things that need to get done here. I'm not getting a spacial organizer, I already know what I want in there after living in the house for 4.5 years, I've had lots of time to think about what would work better for us. I should post "before" pictures for you all. It is kind of comical right now. My own closet has been something (after over 1.5 years in this condo) I'm realizing needs serious overhaul if I'm to continue buying anything (and I don't have much stuff at all). </p> <p>The one thing I wanted to ask you is, when you mention "contractor", specifically which kind of contractor do you mean? Are you doing some kind of system like Elfa (wherein they would send around their own guy)? We had Elfa shelving put in in our living room and hubby's study, for books and whatnot. It's great--functional, adjustable, attractive--but pricey. And our closet has a cheap-o knockoff version already--ClosetMaid, which is also sold thru Home Depot. If at all possible, I want to stay with this system, and just have it tweaked. So I am not sure if there is some independent closet contractor...or someone in the category of home organizer...WHO would be able to take this very physical and also spatial-concept-analytical project on? It doubled the amount of clothing we could hang in our closet. My husband used it for all of his clothes, and I took over all of the lower real estate in the closet. I am putting in a closet system, a wall of shoes, new lighting, carpet, paint, and a wall of pegs for belts, scarves and bags. I am so excited I can barely sit still at work. Once it's done I'm going to count my clothes and get some white velvety hangers too. YAY!! </p>
