My cat does the toy in the slipper thing, too! Actually, my husband's slippers (which are hand knit from wool yarn and felted) is one of his favorite toys. For some reason, he likes to jam his head right into them and then wave his paw around. His absolute favorite things are rubber bands, though. I am vigilant about not leaving them around because I am worried he will choke on one.

The shoe thing got me and I had to post again. When the little dog was a puppy he would hide chew toys in my mother's shoes (she wears a 11). Then one day we were looking for him and couldn't find him. Of course, until she went to put on her shoes. He was wedged down into a flat clog. He had hid dog cookies in the toe and then had gotten stuck trying to retrieve them. I only wish we had a picture. He was quite brave too--- we tease her about having the stinkiest feet in the family, which is saying with a teenage boy!

OMG Kate, your cat is so cute!!! My cat, BK, kept losing his toys, then one day I saw him looking into a floor vase (about 15" high, large, sits on floor) and I looked in it. There were several little fur mice toys I thought he'd lost!! Now, I always check there when something is missing, in addition to the other aforementioned places. Our furbabies are quite resourceful at "hiding"!

Aw, Louise:) Scooter, the Cat Of My Heart, used to do the same thing with a bit of heavy cotton cord. He'd start meowing and carry it, trailing between his legs, all the way up the stairs and present it to me, then snuggle up and go to sleep.

Our current kitties go wild for twist-ties and hair bands. We can't leave one alone for a second.

When my good friend moved out of her house, she found a whole pile of her kitty's mouse toys under the fridge. Since they had already packed everything else up, the newly discovered mousies went into the trunk of their car, which was being shipped across the country along with all their stuff. Of course they forgot about the mousies once again, until they got their car back and opened their trunk to put something in!

He's so cute! We haven't had cats, just dogs, in quite a few years, but my last cat, Worf, loved to play fetch and tinfoil balls were his favorite things. Although wadded up paper was fine with him too.

One morning I opened the front door to let him in the house (he was an indoor-outdoor cat), and on our front step was an enormous wad of heavy-duty tinfoil, we're talking 5" in diameter! I guess it came from someone's trash.

Another day I opened the front door to find a wadded up cigarette package. At least he was cleaning up the neighborhood!

There is nothing like a scrunched up bit of tinfoil or a piece of string to get a cat in a frenzy. Tigger's not really into toys he just likes playing tag with the kitten! Marley has a pig, frog and mouse which originally had some sort of Australian catnip in them which he carries round in his mouth while yowling! We have a routine now, about 11pm he's starts up the yowling I have to call him and he troops upstairs with a toy in his mouth drops it on the bed and settles down to sleep. After a couple of days they all somehow make their way back downstairs and the ritual begins over!

I'm afraid this comes with the territory of pets. You'll find it when you're not looking for it.

FWIW my kitty's fishies often end up being kicked into the closet. There is a small gap under the door--just big enough for a wayward fishy.

Una-- one of my dogs (the little one) is a Yorkie cross. He is half Pomeranian and half Yorkie. The half breeds are usually bigger than purebreds, so he weighs about 15 pounds and is pretty robust for a little guy. The toy is just slightly smaller than him. We have a friend that has a purebred Yorkie and if he stands beside this toy you can't see him! But still, it is embarrassing to loose something that would weight between 7 and 10 pounds if it was alive! That is like loosing a newborn!

My sister's kitty stashes all of his great finds; the last time I helped her move, we found a huge stash in a small corner filled with hair bands/clips, candy wrappers, a few mouse toys, and even some chapstick (!) that he'd hidden away. I can't get my 10 year+ cat to play with much of anything, but I like the foil ball idea! Going to give that a try Also, your kitty is beautiful!!

Don't feel bad, we have repeatedly lost a stuffed dog toy in our house for months at a time (a kangaroo) that is our small dog's lovie. The bad part is that it is the size of a yorkie, if not bigger.

Ah, the case of the missing toys. We are constantly puzzled by the disappearance of cat toys. Here's where we've found them: under fridge, under stove(!), under couch (you probably already looked there, but I thought I'd mention) under ottoman, and in the magazine rack (the only way it could've gotten there was if it bounced off something). These are for the ones we found- many, many more are in the twilight zone.

My cat Jack was playing with a ball of tinfoil, and managed to lose it. He started crying (apparently he really loved that tinfoil), so I came running and we searched for it. After a couple minutes I gave up and made a new one for him. 5 minutes later and he lost that one too. I can't figure out where they went - they can't have gotten too high, he was on the ground the whole time. And we don't have a lot of things on the floor that aren't furniture. Any ideas? Has this happened to anyone else? I don't really want to end up with a house full of wadded up tinfoil that we'll find when we move out in several years...
