I would bring it to HSN's attention first and see if they do anything. If nothing is done, then post a Facebook page about it and spread the word. I think HSN should be given the opportunity to make this right. They were probably scammed, too. At the very least, they need to know about it first before you take your complaint elsewhere. Good luck, and please let us know what happens.

Oh you absolutely need to call them. It doesn't matter how long you have had them. They will have a record of your purchases. At this point they may not do anything, but they will be put on notice. You can also call your Attorney General's office, they generally have a consumer protection division. I also like Vicki's suggestion of posting on their FB page.

I'd email HSN with your facts. Then follow it up with phone call(s) to try to reach someone who cares in their Customer Service.

Do they still carry that brand of jewelry? If they do, they should worry about it a lot. Succinct, credible (negative) reviews can always hurt sales.

right, silver is not magnetic but when I took it to the jeweler to be tested, the magnet stuck right to it and no, these pieces never tarnished, which suprised me because I own LOT of silver and it does tarnish all the time. I will have to check with HSN and see if that's something they can track

HSN should refund your money, if the rings have been misrepresented in their sales and marketing pieces. Hopefully, they'll stand by that since they make tons of money and can write it off. You need to speak up and raise your voice. Even consider posting on the HSN Facebook page, if there is one, and be the squeaky wheel. They want good PR, not bad PR. Fight back!

92.5% silver mixed with another metal - copper was typical until the price went up. Silver isn't magnetic is what I was taught but the alloys are. You should still get a little magnetic resistance from a few inches away but not a definite attraction.

If it is plate, you would see the base metal definitely under the silver plate - you can chip a bit away if you nick into it. They have to nick a bit to test with acid I think? Been a few years since i sold jewelry but the other thing I was told is that sterling gets a bit dull over time. If the pieces are always shiny (no tarnishing) then it isn't sterling.

Good info on HSN - maybe they can research the sale. Bet they track everything.

Christieanne: they used both magnet and acid test to determine that it wasn't silver so I know now for sure. I don;t think jewelry makers can legally stamp jewelry 925 unless there is sufficient silver content(at least that was my understanding)

I'm really sorry! I would still call HSN first. They usually keep records for 5-10 years. Heck, they need that for sales tax purposes. Perhaps you could also provide proof of purchase by means of calling your credit card company. The credit company will not have a detail of what you purchased, but at least it would say HSN and an amount!
Call the BBB as well. How infuriating!

Did they use a magnet to test or acid? If it is plate (and you don't care about the interior of one of the pieces) you could nick a bit of surface and see if there is another metal under it.

This is a bummer.

I didn't think silver plate could be stamped with 925 either. Call HSN or go on their website (I would bet they have some forum thing) and see if there is any mention?
Consumerist.com might have information as well if this was surfaced by anyone else.

Report it to the Better Business Bureau, and call the company. They sell products that they don't make, so maybe HSN was also scammed.

ladies, perhaps someone can give me advice on this dilemma. During last four years or so, I bought 3 rings and pendant from HSN website, all were stamped 925 which is for stirling silver as well as product description also stated stirling silver. The other day I decided to get rid of some of my old jewelry and since these items weren't being worn a whole lot, I decided to add these to the pile. Went to one of these cash for gold places where my pieces were tested and declared the real deal except for the ones from HSN. I was told these were plated and not real silver despite the fact that they were stamped. Just to make sure I took it to a jeweler who confirmed it. I used to work in retail selling fine jewelry so i know how the tests for authencity are conducted so I know it was done properly.
I was told this-either these items are base metal that has been plated or possiblity number two, that these have very small amount of stirling, so small that it doesn't even show up while testing. Either way, I feel scamed-I think I paid around $60-70 each and I don't think they are supposed to advertise it as silver if it is fake.
My DH told me to call them to complain but I don't know what good is this going to do since I had these for anywhere from 2 to 4 years and do not have any recepts anymore.
