Pets are just so great. I find myself laughing so much. A month ago I adopted a Jack Russel Terrier mix ( she's 5 ) that is permanently "visiting" with my parents and my mentally disabled sister ( my mom is physically disabled ) and there is just so much fun in that house now. They are constantly laughing. She is very good natured and very playful. The other day she was cuddling with a huge teddy bear that my sister has ( it is bigger that she is ) and at one point she nudged her head under the teddy's arm and it looked as if the teddy was holding her. It's not ridiculously cooler, just a tiny bit...whereas the hot spell throughout most of the rest of the US is way hotter than usual. It'd sure be nice to balance it all out just a tiny bit...</p> <p>Sending some sunshine up there - I read something silly earlier on a blog about Vancouver, someone said they've taken to 'reporting' the one hour that it might not rain on the nightly news - ie. you can actually go out without the umbrella. Someone else said, "That's once a week.." or something along those lines. He dunked his *whole head* into his water bowl, then sipped some of the water before grabbing a bunch of ice cubes with his mouth - which he happily chomped on. </p> <p>He fell asleep - on the cool tiles in the kitchen - with a couple of ice cubes tucked under his chin. The cubes melted, creating creeping mini-puddles across the kitchen floor. Snoring and snuffling, paws twitching - some kind of doggie dream. Glossy hair turning into embarrassing girly-curls because of the water.<br /> ...</p> <p>Meanwhile, it is ridiculously hot throughout most of the US - I was looking up various almanacs and weather reports from previous years, and it's a good 10-20 degrees warmer this year than the norm, and this is true for fall, winter, spring and now summer.<br /> ...</p> <p>Just for fun - another thing my dog likes in the hot weather? A cheap $10 plastic kids pool that I picked up at the grocery store. I fill it up with cold water from the hose each evening, and Gus *loves* lying down in it and rolling around. All the water spills out onto the patio when he gets into it, because the kiddie-pool isn't quite big enough for him (he's about 100 pounds), but he *loves* that thing. </p> <p>After dunking himself in this childish-looking blue plastic pool with multi-coloured fish printed all over it - he leaps around the back yard like he's a new man. Grabs all of his toys and tosses them up into the air and runs all over the place like some sort of crazed maniac. </p> <p>After a few minutes of this, he then plunges back into the plastic kiddie pool and starts the whole thing over again. Best $10 I ever spent, getting that stupid plastic kid's pool with the dorky-looking pink, purple, green, yellow fish printed all over it. </p> <p>Highly recommended - go get your doggie a cheap plastic kiddie pool from the local grocery or discount store. Fill up with cool water via the hose, nightly - see doggie plunge himself into said pool and then leap around like a maniac around the yard. (It was the only time in my memory that temperatures in Seattle actually went above 100 degrees.) We pulled out a giant fan and put it downstairs, and Shadow parked her nose right in front of it.
