The dissertation was about a very, very old and somewhat obscure Arabic calligraphy form that's making a comeback called Square Kufic; ended up being 2 volumes, something like 500 pages text, 300 pages figures. Hoping to get it published in the next year or two. I don't know I would deal with taking classes part time, or going back after being done with school. I went straight from undergrad into my program, and at this point I couldn't even imagine wanting to take classes for fun. For me, they're a means to an end. Luckily after this school year my course load will drop because I'll start teaching, and after that year I'll be completely done with classes and it will just be the dissertation and teaching. Its something that I used to do full-time - but I got burnt out on that. Also, as you probably know - it is not nearly as lucrative career as it used to be (HMO's and/or lack of insurance coverage - period!) Horrible for those people who really NEED mental health services. I can totally relate to you procrastinating about your "homework" - when I was in graduate schooI I was very good about "keeping up" and never waiting until the last minute. Now, however, whenever I have taken a class on-line I always wait until the last 24 hours and then CRAM like crazy and become a complete nut-case! Also, one time I had to go to traffic school and I opted to do it on-line. I had 90 days to complete the course. I waited until 11 p.m. on the last day - had to have it completed by midnight - and, it was HARD! I couldn't believe it! I clicked the "submit" button at 11:59 p.m. - and by pure dumb luck I passed! Whoo! I swore I would never procrastinate like that again - but, of course, I did! I've been doing two classes at a time but I'm going to cut back to one class in the spring, and then for next fall I'm transferring to a school with an evening program for "working adults." </p> <p>I'm doing it for fun, really, more than anything else. And since they made some changes this fall (the head of the program who recruited me left to go to another campus and I'm not in love with the new team) it just isn't fun.
