Thanks Mo, but it doesn't matter- he's not interested in doing anything proactive. It makes sense, though- he is a late night snacker as well as greasy food lover- which causes him a lot of gastric upset. He won't stop, though.

Khris, I just remembered reading about resetting your internal clock through eating. Basically, you time your last meal of the night to be 12 to 16 hours before you need to wake. I'll try and find the article for you.
http://parentingsquad.com/easy.....op-eating/

LOP- that may be a solution. I will look into that.

40something that is a good idea, too- but he doesn't have an iPod.

rachylou- I saw those and thought the same thing. I would end up being the one to get up and chase it LOL

MPJ- he's salaried, and so he can set his own hours to a certain extent. He also forgets to adjust his alarm. So, yesterday he got up early for something special, and today he didn't have to be in until late because he was going on a road trip with someone else. But he didn't change the alarm time. He also often forgets to turn his alarm off on the weekends. You're right about bedtime, and that is a big part of the problem, and always has been. He's a natural night owl, and every weekend he reverts back to staying up late and fighting his natural schedule all week.

How is he able to oversleep by 3 hours and not get into trouble at work? (Or is it to take someone to a before school practice or something?)

The biggest problem is that his body is not ready to get up when he needs to, presumably because he is not going to bed early enough. He needs to be willing to adjust his bedtime so that he is ready (and willing) to get up when the alarm goes off.

Oh, my boyfriend is the worst about getting a move on. I swear, you can hear gears inside him, straining to make him move to no avail. He is a big big user of the snooze button.

I got him "Clocky" - this alarm on wheels that jumps off the dresser and rolls away. LOL. That's hilarious. He, of course, does not use Clocky because it works too well.

I believe his mother used to yell several times a morning in his ear when he was a child...

You can buy pillows that Ipods are attatched to. Could one of these help him if he has the Ipod set to wake him up to music etc. as he will be the only one hearing the music at wake-up time ?

Can an arm band with vibration work for him? Sometimes that is more effective than sounds. That way you don't wake up with sound when he does either.

I did Kim- and I do. Of course, once they hear me speaking the animals start going uts and I have to get up and let them out. I have been known to actually push him out of the bed. He just crawls back in and falls back asleep. This is an ongoing issue for many, many years. The best solution that I have found is to find a good compromise of an alarm clock that is loud enough to really wake him up (at least by the second alarm), but not so startling that I can't fall back asleep.

sounds to me like you need to sleep with a glass of ice water by your side :-)
Nothing.... NOTHING annoys me more than hubbies alarm going off long before he decides to get up.
I'm curious Khris, as to why you don't (at 4:30) say, "Hey, your alarm went off 30 minutes ago... get your butt out of bed!"

Lights don't work for him, or the gradual alarms. We've tried those.

Hmm - maybe the kind that lights up the room gradually, if you are willing to wear a sleep mask to sleep through it?

My husband has always been a heavy sleeper. When I met him, he had his stereo hooked up to a timer and was using that set at full blast as an alarm. Every few years we deal with this issue again because someone's schedule changes, clocks breaks, etc. So, it's that time again. He's been using his cell phone as an alarm, and this morning it went off around 4 am, but he didn't get up until almost 7. I, on the other hand; woke up at 4 and never fell back asleep. He needs a new alarm clock- this is ridiculous. He prefers digital with a large display so that he can read it without his glasses, two alarms and a loud alarm sound. I have seen the super loud alarm clocks with bed shakers, but I need something that I can fall asleep again after he gets up, so nothing too extreme. Anyone have a good recommendation?
