And now Taylor too - so its unanimous!! Ok I am literally going to copy and paste this and see what happens!!! Thanks!!!

"shoulder lenght, add lots of layers, to bounce up those curls(love your curls) and maybe add some side bangs"

Mellls I think I need a decent amount of length chopped off to make up for the poor condition of my ends. I like the idea of going shorter too, so I'll give it a go!!

I really like the long curly look on you and think it suits you. What about a trim to even things out? Tell your stylist you want to spend only minimal time styling and see what he/she says.

Ooh Renata you replied as I was typing out my massive reply too! I think you have summarised all the advice above amazingly! That is exactly what I will say to them tomorrow!!!

Not sure about highlights though....I just dye my hair blue-black about every 6 weeks. Its naturally a very dark brown and barely makes a difference. Many years ago I used to try and get foils/dye my hair lighter but the results were barely ever visible so I kind of gave up!

Thanks for all the thoughts and suggestions! Just to clarify I won't be losing the curls, don't worry. The only time I get my hair straightened is at the hairdressers (i.e. twice a year). Although my hair is straighter than it used to be after I got it permamently straightened 2 1/2 years ago (or would that have fully grown out now? I don't know!) Anyway buying a hair straightener is on my todo list, but it will def. be for special occasions only, not every day.

Katiepea thanks for posting that excerpt from the website. It makes sense!

Rute your curls always look so lovely and well groomed. My hair is actually very thin and frizzes/becomes wispy easily. It never looks nice and tame!

Joy I have a love/hate relationship with shorter and curly. I have tried it a few times (but not for about 10 years now). Here's some retro pics of me with shorter, curly hair:
- back in 2000 - hard to see because under hat, but waay too short I think
- approx age 16 - the dreaded triangle effect. A good example of why I need layers.
- maybe age 15 this is possibly a precursor to the triangle look above, not sure!

Queenie do you have any tips in what to ask for in terms of layers? Often I feel like I ask for them but don't get layers as short as I need. I'm not really sure though.

Shana you're so sweet! I will wear my hair curly most of the time due to pure laziness :)

Kate that is def. what appeals to me about short hair. However I worry that because its quite unruly itll just look messy on me. I wish I had lovely sleek locks like you!!!

San you are sweet but I know I do have a really short forehead! I can't even fit 3 finger widths between the top of my eyebrows and my hairline. I am destined to never be able to have a fringe ("bangs")!!!

R&J your curls always look lovely too!! What do you put in them to keep them in place?

AJ I love her hair. Would love mine to look like that. I think apart from the length, the main difference is more layers. Do you think???

If I had you in my chair I would: keep it shoulder lenght, add lots of layers, to bounce up those curls(love your curls) and maybe add some side bangs. I guess that sounds like your last haircut, only you straightend it:)
And how about some highlights around your face?

I find that my hair curls the bet when kept just above the shoulders, any longer and the curls tend to drop. At that length you can still tie your hair out of your face when training. Your square face (my face is long) is definitely framed beautifully by your curls.

Kate has some very good points having just cut her long hair to a shorter style.
First let me say that you do have a beautiful forehead, not lacking as you said. You have great bone structure in your face and those cheekbones are killer.
I also am in the camp for letting the curls be their glorious self. I love curls, and on you they will be perfect.
You must have pictures of yourself as a child with curls and love them on the little girl Tam.

I cut off 10" of hair about 2 months ago, and remembered (once again) how much easier short hair is. There are so many things I got used to dealing with when I had longer hair that were rather inconvenient. My shorter hair is so much quicker to wash, condition and dry, doesn't leave wet spots on my clothes, can go into windy areas and be rather easy to untangle and put back in its place, doesn't get stuck under shoulder straps of bags and whatnot, the hair that I shed around the house is less noticeable because it's much shorter, I can lean forward without all of my hair getting in my face, etc. It's amazing all of the things that we put up with when we have longer hair!

I think you should cut it as short as you can while still being able to pull it back with a hairband. This will make the washing and drying after swimming so much quicker, and just make your hair so much easier to deal with. I can't wait to see what you decide and how it goes!

Tam, can I just say, you are SO gorgeous! I also like the shorter length on you and I agree with the others that the curly texture is awesome. Anyway, one thing you might want to consider is how the weather affects your hair. I know you're heading into fall/winter and I know for me at least, I wear my hair straighter in the fall & winter since it's so dry. I'm more likely to wear my hair curly since the heat & humidity is not conducive to a sleeker/straighter do.

Hello!

First, please let me qualify myself that I am by no means a hair style expert. However as a fellow 'hopeless' with hair type person (so I understand the need for simple, simple, simple!) I'm proposing the following as a possibility for you:

For practical reasons and also because I think it will suit you, I really like the idea of cutting your hair just past half way between jaw and shoulder line (ie, longer than a bob, but not so long it touches your shoulders - probably a tad shorter than in the photo where you'd just had your hair done).

Also, as you hate to dry your hair straight, and I actually LOVE your curls, I think you should also ask the stylist to cut your hair so that when you let it dry naturally it 'plays up' the wave in your hair in order to help soften the slight squareness of your beautiful face. This way, your hair can be more wash and wear without having to go to a big effort to make it look stylish.

Here is a little more info I've found via my friend Google which may give you some guidance....

Square face
If your face is square, with a strong, square jaw line and often an equally square hairline, the right hairstyles for you are ones that soften the square look of your face. Short to medium length hair cuts, with soft wispy bangs and a wave or curl will compliment and balance out your straight face shape. If you hair is straight, maybe consider a body wave. Side parts and fullness/height at the crown can add length to your square face shape.

Avoid straight styles - long straight hair, blunt bangs, straight bobs and center parts, as they will emphasise your square jawline.

Source - http://www.hairstyle.com/hair-.....y-face.htm

Whatever you decide, you are just so beautiful, I'm sure you will look lovely! x

I'm a bit like you though - straightening it is as much styling as I can do, so wash and wear is best LOL

I've booked myself in for one of my bi-annual haircuts on Friday. The last time I had a haircut was early September. 9 months is waaaay too long to go without a haircut, the ends are all gross and very hard to comb through.

My curls, square face, lack of forehead and unwillingness to blowdry my hair limit my cutting possibilities, but I was wanting to get some advice about hair length.

Here's a reasonably short cut I got last year:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/y.....225256166/

Do you think I should go this short, or even shorter? I've recently started up swimming and shorter hair that dries faster is appealling. I am useless at styling my hair regardless of length, so it has to be easy.

Any advice on length, layering, anything else?

Here's what my hair currently looks like. It quickly gets out of control!
http://www.flickr.com/photos/y.....225256166/
