Hell, yes. That's next week, I'll be thrilled not to look like Rod Stewart (or at least less like Rod Stewart) anymore!

Tricia,
She probably means compared to keeping a pixi wich must be re-shaped every 3 weeks or so ...if you trim too often you remove the new length...8 weeks is a good place to start, if you are comfortable with that.

Thanks everyone!

The stylist I've been going to actually told me to try to cut it as SELDOM as possible when I'm growing out, but she's the only stylist I've ever heard say that. She's been really good, but maybe I'll just insist she trim me anyway.

Yes, the ladies are correct. Keep things trimmed up each 6-8 weeks , when you are growing out, this can be frustrating so hang in there:)

I too am embarking on this infuriating process. Renata and Taylor both suggested to me that I should get my hair shaped and trimmed into the style that I want it to grow into if that makes sense. You should get it adjusted regularly, otherwise you risk losing patience and just lopping it off again. Then you end up in a rut where you try to grow your hair, give up and cut it, try growing it again, give up again, etc. Growing hair out can be fun because you get to try a lot of fun new styles along the way.

Hi Tricia! I feel your pain - while I've never been brave enough to sport a pixie, I have gone through the agony of trying to grow a mega-layered crop into a longer style. There's nothing graceful about it! What I would suggest, though, is cutting the back so it blends more naturally with your shorter top layers. That way it will start to look more like a bob and less like a mullet. Your hair won't look long as soon as you might like, but it will look a lot better in the interim (and cause you much less frustration while you're trying to style it)! And go every 6-8 weeks for a trim. That will allow it time to gain some length, but will help you maintain a decent style and keep it healthy so when you do have longer hair, it's not 90% split ends Like Queenie said, a good stylist will know exactly what to do. Good luck!

not an expert here, but I'll weigh in just to say good morning :-), and I do think you need to go for regular hair appts while you are growing out-- if you have a good stylist he or she should be able to keep your hair looking great while letting it grow out-- otherwise it will just look unruly and unkept in the interim- and you'll get frustrated.

I had a very short, very layered haircut - pretty much exactly like Renata's - but I've started the process of growing it out. I loved it, just was ready for a change. So it's been about 7-8 weeks since my last hair appointment, and I look like I'm wearing one of those horrible Rod Stewart wigs. (http://www.internationalwig.co.....tewart.htm)

I've been tucking the grown-out sideburns behind my ears, blow-drying the back for a little height at the crown, and pushing the front to the side, sometimes with a little clip there to hold it. It's...okay. Definitely not fab, but I know I have to grin and bear it for a while.

Does anyone (especially Renata and taylor) have advice for getting through this awkward stage? How often should I be going for a trim? Should I get the back part trimmed sooner to avoid the mullet look? Any tips for looking cute while I wait?
