Oh and FYI I ran out of the Betty Crocker Icing and had to use Wilton's to finish- Betty Crocker was *way* better tasting, and also easier to use tips.

Those look great and gingerbread is one of my very favorite parts of this time of year. I make several kinds: cookies that are almost cake-like, gingersnaps and gingerbread people.

Shannon, I loved reading your story. What a nice tradition!

This post just made me smile Khris - gingerbread have a HUGE tradition in my family. My great grandmother started it when she first got married. Because they didn't have much money, my great grandmother would bake a gingerbread man for each member of the family, decorate it to look like the person who was receiving it, and then give them as gifts. When she no longer could make the cookies, she passed the tradition to my grandmother, who eventually passed it to my mother, who last year passed it to me. It's a lot of work and takes hours and hours, and I wouldn't want it any other way. And it doesn't matter how old we become, it isn't Christmas until you receive your gingerbread man. I don't have a daughter (only one son) so I hope he marries someone who is willing to take it on when I'm done!

Your cookies are beautiful!

super cute! I LOVE gingerbread!

Also, when I first saw Santa I only noticed the rosy cheek on the left and thought he was crying! hahaha! ...it's finals week and I apparently need a lot more sleep (and cookies) in my life!

I kept seeing them in commercials on TV and had to make some Gingerbread cookies for a holiday get together this weekend. This recipe from Food Network has a nice spicy flavor, and a crisp crust:

http://www.foodnetwork.com/rec.....index.html

and the icing tubes from Betty Crocker work well and taste good.

Hope this helps someone else out with their holiday baking!
