Our dog's name is Trixie, but we mostly call her Ding, which is short for something not very kind, but unfortunately accurate. She has also been called Dingus, Dingus Maxximus, Trixie4000, T4K, and for a while a few months ago, Killer, after she treed an enormous raccoon (she's a 12-lb dachshund).

The scary thing is that I often refer to one particular pet by my son's name, as well as my son's nickname, before finally pouncing on his real name.

My sweet kitty Ruby, and her not-so-sweet sidekick, Harley the cockatiel, have passed on. I really do miss them both.

In the past on particularly frazzled days, I just *might* have occasionally (mistakenly) called one or both pets by my kids' names. Or even worse, I would occasionally slip up and call the children by the pet's name. You mothers out there know what I am talking about!

Gertrude: Trudy, Gert

Oh yeah. Too many to go through, really.

Booboo isn't even really her name. Or it wasn't. It's Leanan but we rarely call her that. Also Boops, Bockbock and Great Boo. The last is mainly used in the morning; "Hey Kip! Great Boo's up!" (Bladder fan here.)

Brenna - Bromidena, Bremalo, Bremisca, er... there's more but now I'm drawing a blank

Zepar - Zep, Par, Parpar, Nipples, Little Buddy, Gilligan, Moosey, Dopey, Dummy Head, Yobert, Yogurt, Perro Rojo, Red Dog, Shark Bite... My husband nearly never calls him by name.

My beloved Emily, who passed away a few weeks ago, suffered through everything from "Em," to "Bun, Bunny Love, Bun with the Tum, Tummy Love, Lovey, Lovey Pie, Pickle, Pickle Pie, Softie, Punkin, Punky Monkey, Little Munchkin Pie, Sweetness, Sweet Pea, Puffanutter" and probably worst of all, "Plumpkin."

I'm really not a cutesy person who is into nicknames, but Emily was too irresistibly cute for her own good. She just brought it out in me.

Una, you are HILARIOUS!! And you've given me courage to fess up to another goofy couple of names. One of McClure's nicknames was Monty (see above), and it came about because one of the staff in our apartment building always screwed his name up and called him things that sounded like that. We had McClure at the same time as our cat...Eventually Monty became Monty-Goo, which became Monty-Goo and Catulet. :p
Yeah, English nerd right over here!

This is such a cute thread!

My cat's official name is Flynn. He is a rag-doll and has just turned 84 (well 12, but you all know what I mean).

Over time Flynn's name has transformed to the more affectionate name "Flynny" (it's easier to call out that name at night time!). In recent years, Flynn has officially been known as (and answers to the name) of "Ninny" #1: because he is a scaredy cat and #2: because that's how my boys used to pronounce his name when they were little and I will admit I thought it was very cute! :-)

Here's a recent of photo of my little "ol' man Ninny" (taken by Master 6).

Our yellow lab is named Thelma, the name she came with from the rescue shelter. Apparently she had a sister or companion named Louise, which makes the name make more sense, doesn't it?

I really wanted to change her name, especially since I felt so silly scheduling vet appts. for her and telling people her name was Thelma. It sounds more like a grandmother's name than a 3 year old dog, doesn't it?

We actually call her Beast, or The Beast quite a bit, as in, "have you fed the Beast yet?" and she probably responds better to it than her actual name now.

She also gets called Stinky Girl, Pretty Girl, and Girlfriend quite a bit.

We're the WORST at making up names. Or rather, me, the unbearable punster.

Our cat Riley was: the Rilometer, Abraham Blinkin', Squintin' Tarantino, Shreddy Krueger, Loaf of Ri.... I cringe typing these out.

Our dogs have all been called Wagatha Christie at some point. Sometimes I call my dog Kona "Konicula" when she is being bloodthirsty.

Our dog Kiska we called "Doodleface" and I can't even remember why.

My son is not exempt either. He hates when I call him "Bug" in front of his friends.

Oh yeah. My dog's name is Boo (middle name: Radley).

We call him: Booboo, Boo-bean, Bean, The Bean, Beanie, Beanly Manning, Sugarbean, Sugarbanana, Bananapants, Booey, Booeyduck (rhymes with geoduck), Duckie, Badger, Piglet, Mr. Pit (for when his pit-bull shows), Colonel Arthur Radley, etc. My current favorite is Beanly Manning. That's Boo's mild-mannered alter ego (named after a law school professor); the supervillain is Mr. Pit. We are apparently big fans of nicknames.

My parents' dog is named Killer, aka KC/Casey (first family that had him named him Killer; their last initial was C, and the "mom" of his family preferred to call him KC/Casey). We call him Killy, Killer-diller, Quesadiller, Killerface, Kill-killee (very Irish sounding), Pup, etc. My little brother has perhaps a dozen other names that I can't think of off the top of my head.

My cat's official name when my husband adopted him was "Hector." Hubby never really renamed him, but always just called him "Kitty" (clever, I know), so that's what he responds to. We call him plenty of things but he really only responds to "Kitty."

EDIT: Added a photo ^^

Definitely!

I also end up giving my furkids middle names so we now have a cat named Daisy Louise (D. Lou for short) and another called Lily Anna.

:)

Oh absolutely!

Zoe - is often called Posey, Marshmellow, or Pooka.
Dallas (that was her name when we got her - she's a hospice cat from the shelter) - is often called Tex or Dally.
Delilah (also her name when we got her, and another hospice shelter cat) - is called Deelah, Lilah, Deelah B (the "B" stands for Bob as she has a neurological problem that makes her head bob when she walks!) or Porky Snorty because she is soooo very messy and noisy when she eats!
And finally, Scout - his given name from the shelter - a foster semi-feral kitten that we are socializing - we call him Sarge, and Little Boy.

I love having nicknames for my fur-babies. They tell me that they love them too!

GOSH yes!

official name: Chester P. Hands La Rue (as a 3-week-old baby, she'd love to lay on our chests and would always step in her own pee after litterbox duty)
nicknames: Cheebs, Cheebsie, Chest, Girl, and sometimes "fatass" o_0

official name: Radio "Hank" Heinrich
nicknames: Buba, Poofy, Hankie Poo, Two-Stroke, Cream Puff, Mister Meezer, Handsome Man, Crookshank

official name: Elliott Bo Tyrus
nicknames: Bobo, El-bo, Cookie Dough, Coffee Cake

Like yours, they know all their names and always respond -- though not always by running over; sometimes they hear their name and pointedly turn their backs on us!

Isn't it great how they just know ? Though our dog was called Morgan, we had many terms of endearment for him, foremost, Snuffly.
