with that said, i'm currently reading "River Marked" by Patricia Briggs part of the Mercedes Thompson urban fantasy series. :)

I'm also a fan of Elizabeth George...although I haven't had the heart to read any since she killed off one of my favourite characters a few books back. :-(

Right now I've got two books on the go: Bill Bryson's "The Mother Tongue: English and How It Got That Way" and Richard Dawkins' "The Greatest Show on Earth." As far as books go, I like non-fiction as much as fiction. I read magazines at the checkout while waiting to pay for groceries, but rarely buy any. For websites, the only one besides this one that I read regularly is Pharyngula by PZ Myers, to keep me posted on science news.

I'm also considering re-reading the last Harry Potter book, because the final film installment is coming up this summer and I can't remember very clearly how the book went (other than that I liked it). I like to read things before seeing the movie.

Queen Mum: I also loved Snow Flower and the Secret Fan! Lisa See is one of my favorite authors, and I'm looking forward to reading the sequel to "Shanghai Girls" next month.

I finished "A Canticle for Leibowitz" recently, and I plan to read "The Nobodies Album" by Carolyn Parkhurst next (another favorite author). When I need a quick reading fix, I'll read one of Sloane Curtis's personal essays (in "I Was Told There'd Be Cake"...she also has a new book coming out in a few weeks). I'll have to check out "The Art of Racing in the Rain"--it sounds like a tearjerker!

As embarrassed as I am to admit it, I also downloaded the new Tamora Pierce book of short stories to my kindle recently. She was one of my favorite authors as a child, and I had a nostalgic urge to revisit the characters.

Just finished "Almost Golden" (Gwenda Blair) about Jessica Savitch. Getting ready to start a book about Jack the Ripper, I love true crime (studied Criminal Justice to become a Profiler with FBI). I'm a book junkie! Went to library yesterday and got 15 or so books to read in the next 2 weeks! Last summer I read every book I could get my hands on about Jackie O and the Kennedy's. This last fall I read quite a lot about WWI and WWII, then did a report about it. I'm so curious about things and love learning....

Late to the party, but I always love these threads!! And waving to Kari (twice), because I also love the Amelia Peabody series and I too re-read favourite books/series once every few years.

I'm always in the middle of a detective novel, one of my favourite genres, and I just finished "This Body of Death" by Elizabeth George. I got a deluxe edition of Raymond Chandler's "The Big Sleep" for my birthday, so that is on my to re-read pile too.
"The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie" (Alan Bradley) had its moments, but it wasn't as good as I had hoped.

I found "Hotel Bosphorus", which is now on my wish list, via this website:
http://www.bitterlemonpress.com/default.asp

I'm also browsing through "The Flavour Bible" and Mark Bittmans "How to Cook Everything Vegetarian" in bed, both volumes are heavy and clumsy, so I regularly wish I had an iPad;-) But the food and ideas are fantastic!

Great reading suggestions! I got a hand-me-down kindle from my neighbor and I have it loaded up with style books, like Nina Garcia's "100" etc. I read novels fast, so I limit my purchases. A recent favorite was a paperback borrowed from my SIL named "Hunting and Gathering." It's translated from french and I can't remember the author. Both my 15 year old and I loved it. L

I am starting High on Arrival by Mackensie Phillips but haven't picked it back up in several days. Also on again off again with Ken Follet's Whiteout. I'm not finding it anywhere near the caliber of Pillars of the Earth, which I read 12 or 13 years ago now. I go in phases of reading and can't seem to get with the program right now. But I'm marking this thread so I can have good suggestions to follow up on when the mood strikes again. (I also really liked Racing in The Rain)

Isabel and Ms M - I love Alain de Botton and Jared Diamond, too! Although the JD book you are about to embark on is a tad depressing, Ms M!

Ornella, I loved Steve Bidulphs raising boys. It re-enforced to me the value of community in raising our children.

My lovely sister (hi, Teresa, if you're lurking ) sent me Making Australia Happy, the book written after an ABC series/documentary. I've only read the beginning (healthy habits - movement and quality nutrition) so far but it seems really enjoyable.

The last fiction I read was Alexander McCall Smiths Number 1 Ladies Detective Agency series, which I devoured (washed down with lots of Rooibos tea!).

I just finished The Elegance of the Hedgehodg by Muriel Barberry and am moving on to Traveling With Pomegranates (for Book Club) by Sue Monk Kidd. Lacuna readers, I'll be interested to see what you think of the book. I thought it was one of Kingsolver's weaker works.

Just finished the Tiger Mom book, now onto Cloud Atlas. And we're doing Cutting For Stone for book club, which I've already read and LOVED.

Oooh, I've been looking forward to the new Jane Eyre movie. I heard it was good. I'm still very partial to the most recent miniseries, though.

I love these threads too. I just finished The Memory Keeper's Daughter which I enjoyed. I also picked up some old Dorothy Sayer's and Ruth Rendell mysteries from a library sale. I'm loving those. Not very deep but highly entertaining.
