Lots of Mac Fluidline fans here. I love the stuff too--for me, it's best to apply with an angled brush. I've been using it forever! My color is Dipdown which is a dark brown/black.

I've seen a web-thing on doing this look.

The girl used 2 small pieces of toupee tape to mask off the area on each eye that she didn't want eye-linering, applied the liquid eyeliner (bit like a felt tip) and then whipped off the 2 pieces of sellotape - hey presto! Perfect cats eyes.

I haven't tried this in real life though - I'm so clumsy I'd probably rip out most of my eyelashes too. It does look a bit on the painful side.

I use a (sharp) brown eyeliner for a daytime take & a black liquid pen for a night time look with pre-moistened q-tips at the ready to rectify any mistakes. A steady hand is required!

Thank you all for the advice and specific items to look for. I definitely have a skin type where most makeup doesn't stick around for very long. I have tried a few primers, none of which have made a big difference, but to be honest I haven't made it my life's work to find one or anything. Time to try again!

I second Una's suggestion of Mac Fluidline. I love it. Very easy to work with (as far as liquid/gel liners go), and it stays put all day.

I'm a disaster with liquid eyeliner - too spazzy. Instead I use Mac's Fluidline liners - they are a gel in a pot. You have to apply them with a brush but they dry quickly. I put it in my waterline and blink a couple of times for a basic look, but you can use an angled brush to get a cat-eye. They last forever without smudging once on. Just don't leave the jar open as it will dry out!

I too am experimenting with this look. Sad to say, I have a long way to go. I have a hard time getting the swoop beyond the eye lid just right and keeping my eye still while it dries.

I've heard it might be easier if you draw the shape first with a pencil, and then go over it with liquid liner.

I recently bought this Stila liner which came highly recommended, but I haven't yet tried it:

Make sure you are also using an eyelid primer- it helps things stay put.

Sounds like you have 'hot' eyelids like mine, that eat shadow, liner, etc. for lunch!

no worries, just prep with a good base like Too Faced Shadow Insurance or Urban Decay eye shadow primer. Just use a tiny tiny amount (like a dot 1/8" across per lid). Type of liner helps, too - for pencil i'd use Styli Style or Prestige. As for not being too OTT, try the cat eye shape in pencil that's a bit smudged, even in a dark brown or grey rather than black.

Hi Laura, that look is big over here in the UK at the moment. I think you have to use liquid eye liner and wait for it to dry so that it stay's put. Lol My niece did it but must have blinked before it finished drying, it was not a great look!!

Has anyone else seen One for the Money, the movie version of the Janet Evanovich book with Katherine Heigl? It's a cute little movie. Anyway, I really liked Heigl's character's makeup look, especially the modified cat-eye thing she had going on. (You can kinda see it in this pic - http://thedirecthor.fooyoh.com.....ce/6570293 )

I am wondering how one gets this look without looking OTT or having makeup end up all over the place. Whenever I've tried with eyeliner it's gone by lunchtime, but it's always been regular liner, not liquid liner - is that what's needed?
