Khris, I was diagnosed with arthritis and have found two things that help tremendously - frequent exercise and krill oil supplements. I find that if I go more than a few days without exercising, I start to feel the stiffness in my hands and feet. In fact, I told my husband when we were making some cuts in our budget that my gym membership was a medical necessity!

The krill oil has been near miraculous for me - I was in the middle of a horrible flare when I started it and I really didn't want to do a daily regimen of NSAIDs (and deal with the consequent stomach problems since I already have a history of acid reflux) so I started researching alternatives. I can't find the original article anymore (it was from a medical journal and not from a site that was selling something like this one) but here's a website that summarizes some of the info:

http://www.vrp.com/articles.aspx?ProdID=1822

In just a few days, I felt a reduction in the pain and I have been in "remission" since the summer with no drugs. Even a regular fish oil supplement would provide anti-inflammatory benefits without the side effects of an NSAID regimen. There are also some great books out there on anti-inflammatory diets.

Khris, I'm sorry that you're sick! It sounds like good news so far for your son - reassuring that he doesn't have arthritis, right?

Hugs, Khris, you sure have enough on your plate without a stomach bug of your own! The regimen for your son sounds taxing, but at least it may ward off some more serious alements. Good luck with it all. And hope you and DD feel better soon!

My son had his appointment with the rheumatologist today. DD and I came down with a stomach bug this weekend, so hubby had to take the day off and take the boy to the doctor's. We'd been waiting for this appointment for months, so I was not going to reschedule. Let's see- she gave him a prescription for Naprocin (Alleve) to take daily, ordered a joint survey (x-rays of all of his joints), and told us to get him on an exercise regimen to increase flexability and strength. The good news is that he does not have arthritis at this time, and he may never develop it if we're careful. He goes back iat the end of February.
